I currently have approx. 232k miles on my 2003 Tundra 4WD, 4.7L V8. I bought the truck with 93K miles and I don't believe the timing belt has EVER been changed. (I know I'm now playing with fire). I thought all V8 motors had timing chains, but was wrong. So that said, I'm going to have this done next week. I been reading several threads that state only use an OEM belt. Are OEM belts that much better and worth the extra cost? I saw on one post that the brand Aisin is considered OEM for Toyota. Does anyone know if that is true?
I was checking out my owner's manual and I could NOT find a maintenance schedule like all of my previous Honda vehicles contained.
At 232K, does anyone recommend anything I should also change or have checked out besides the water pump which I'll have them do when they change the timing belt.
Thanks in advance for you help. I'm an new member here on Tundras.com and will be posting pictures of my Truck soon.

    1) Yes.
    2) Yes.
    3) Everything between (AND including) the radiator and front of engine block, in your case.

I would also change out the timing belt tentioner, idler pulley or the bearing in it and the idler tensioner. I would also flush the cooling system and put in new antifreeze.may even change the thermostat. I have 372,000 miles on my 2000 tundra and have done the things that I have told you about. Mine still runs smoothly and strong. Check your spark plugs while you are in there.

    Both responses are spot on.

Also, what maintenance have you done otherwise? We need more info. Personally, by 232K there is a long list of things that I would have done. I'm just speculating so correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like routine maintenance may not have been done? Let us know what you've done to the truck and we can make some suggestions beyond the timing belt/water pump.

Yes I still have my 2003 tundra replaced water pump and tensioner and a week after I got it back it started leaking antifreeze! Not sure if it was there fault or not but just be prepared to fix other things as well... they wanted $500 for new radiator and install but I did it myself for the cost of the radiator not to hard to remove and install just my story on it
