Has anyone on here ever installed a Volent Snorkel or know someone that has. I'm looking into one for my db rw. I know that they pull cleaner air into the engine and i made my own for my 1994 Chey suburban out of 2in pvc and it made a difference in hp but im try to figure out if it is worth it for the tundra.

You mean Volant cold air intake? Or are you looking for a snorkel so that you can submerge the truck for water crossings? If you’re looking for just a CAI you’re not going to gain much if anything.

The Volant snorkel is a total PITA to install. Upside....price has dropped drastically since they aren't selling too many.

Total waste of money! Good luck with resale value.

Definitely not many reviews probably because it's such a pain to attempt install. The TundraHQ guys had a hell of a time with install. It hurt just to read their review..

It doesn't look too bad once installed. Price is right now. You will need help with install for sure...and beer...and a long weekend...heh...heh.

It's too bad ARB engineers haven't come up with a snorkel for the 2007s and up..at least Volant did. It's really the only one for the 07 to 13.

I had an ARB Safari Snorkel on my Tacoma for around 10 years so I feel like I can rant intelligently on the subject.

I added the snorkel mostly as an insurance policy. The truck went through its share of streams where the bow wake went over the hood. The snorkel reduced the likelihood of engine lockup (reduced, not eliminated as the snorkel was just one part of the system). Beyond water, I found it was valuable on high-speed dusty fire roads and keeping the air intake high where the particulates are smaller and thus the filter cleaner. Not a game changer as I banged out the filter daily anyways, but a helper.

Theoretically, a snorkel should produce a ram-air, cyclonic effect and thus increase engine performance/efficiency. I did not see any of that and 99% of people don't. It's likely due to the fact that vehicles with snorkels also have hundreds of extra pounds of armour, equipment and higher rolling resistance off-road tires. It's not enough to cancel any of that out.

Cutting the fender holes wasn't easy mentally, but not a hard mechanical job. If you mess it up though, it's a big mess up. Plus, the more holes you add, the more likely it will rust. The Volant looks like a nightmare install though - I wouldn't touch that thing.

Car washes become tough with a snorkel. You really shouldn't use an automated wash because you're basically spraying water and soap straight into the system.

My advice: treat a snorkel like optional insurance. Only buy one if you are going to put you truck in situations where you're likely to need it.
