Sooo I have recently felt my transmission starting to act a little differently after the truck is warm. At certain shift points at higher speeds it feels like it slips ever so slightly and I can occasionally feel a hard shift when letting off the gas at cruising speeds(30-45mph)

My truck (2011 Tundra 5.7L 4x4, non flex fuel)has 99k miles on it with a supercharger put on about 10k miles ago.

My question is some techs don’t recommend servicing a transmission that is already presenting these issues. Other guys say they service religiously every 60k miles. I don’t have any record of this transmission being serviced for the life of the truck.

    What do you guys think?

the 6 speed is supposed to be lifetime fluid, with 100k intervals under "severe duty"

the extra tq from that supercharger does potentially create some more risk

I would change the fluid. It may just be dirty and getting extra stress from the supercharger. I t can't hurt if it is already acting strange. I have read that when this happens it needs to be changed.just my 2 cents

    None, yet....
Do you have access to a tech stream? You could easily confirm a slip on the data list. Or, you have a little moisture build up in the fluid. Does it shudder going into flex lock-up or just when it’s actually shifting?

On my 12' CM, the service was:

30K-Check levels, function of trans. This is where the solenoids are tested. (this was free to me)
60K- for severe duty (towing, dirt roads, 4x4 use, heavy traffic) drain and fill. Solenoids were tested again. 199.00 for service.
    90K-same as 30K service.
    120K-Same as 60K mile service.

Funny, but the Lexus dealership does not recommend 120K mile services on my IS350. They said every 60K to have a long service life. My last trans service at my local Lexus dealership was 88.00. Sold.

I had a hard shift or skip situation at about 60k miles years ago. Changed the fluid and it went away.

I have felt no shudder what so ever, just harder shifts and a little slip at higher speeds(accelerating from 60mph)

That sounds about like mine. Between 3-4th gear. Cheap fix if its just a matter of changing the fluid. I was freaking thinking the trans was blown. My mechanic said lets change the fluid. Sure enough that was the fix. I tow alot.

    Not many yet, mostly stock.
Sense the thread is up, I have a question, Is there a filter to change along with the trans fluid in the automatic trans for the Tundra? I'm an inquiring mind...

If I remember correctly, there is a metal screen internally. But there is no serviceable filter

Hey guys, just checking back in! I had the tranny serviced and it seems to have cleaned everything up as far as the issues I thought I had. Thank y’all for the advice!

I would do that more frequently since you have a huffer. A good maintenance program is worth its weight in gold.

Another thing is really look into the service manual on when you should be changing oils and servicing your truck. I would be willing to bet most people are in the "sever" maintenance schedule and not the regular one.

One service manager flat out told me that is how they deny warranty with the automatic transmissions. People don't have the transmissions serviced at 30/60/90/120 (I explained what was is checked in post #5), and then they get to to a R&R for 4000.00+ dollars.

Glad it worked out for you!

I appreciate the advice, I will definitely be following the severe service manual...especially with over 100k with a blower
