Blower Motor squeak...squeak...squeak

Need to ask the Tundra experts a question...

It has been -11 the last few nights, with a "warm" to about 0 Fahrenheit during the day. The cold plays havoc with any vehicle and the Tundra has performed extremely well.

However, there are two small issues...well, besides the TRD Pro NOT having heated seats...smile. Thankfully I have enough....er...padding so it doesn't really matter.

The dash, on the passenger side, has a rattle (more of a crackle) kinda sound. I've researched and even talked to a buddy with an older Tundra who says that's fairly common. Not worth the effort to get fixed. (It stops when the truck warms up....)

The second issue, though, is a bit more concerning. The blower motor for the heat makes a "squeaking" noise. Not a constant squeal, but a squeak, squeak, squeak as the motor turns. Is this something I should have addressed since the truck is still under warrantee? Never noticed it this summer or last winter at the time of purchase. It really doesn't bother me that much, but was worried it might be a warning sign of a failure at 25,001 miles.

Many thanks to the best Tundra forum folks out there!

Everything makes noises when it's this cold, including me. ;)
My blower motor does the squeak squeak squeak when I first start out in these below zero temps, but goes away once it starts to spin up with the heat. I leave mine on auto all the time so I never really noticed if it stays with the slow speed only.

ugh... mine is doing that too....

I don't care if it only does it when it's 10 degrees... it shouldn't effin do it at all on a $45k truck. If i wanted shitty quality, I'd have bought a ford out of the gate.

I have to go to the dealer to return some parts for my wife's 4R.. i'll be asking them to take a look when i go.

lol pull the passenger dash apart and/or pull the filter out and try and oil ithe bearing for the blower motor if the squeak bothers you that much. my 4runner has been doing that when it drops below zero the last 2-3 years. goes away after the blower motor warms up.

its not that hard to fix yourself.

Mine just starting doing that a couple weeks ago and it hasn't been all that cold here in CO. It also doesn't go away once it's warm so I'm planning on having them either replace or oil when I get my next service. It's annoying for sure but I would have thought it would have taken a lot longer to do this than 25k miles.

My old one (2012) did that. I brought it to Toyota, who of course couldn’t get it to duplicate as it was in-consistent. I showed the video so they wounldnt think I was crazy.
@JC303 did this continue when you got the truck?

I have only heard it a few times as my truck is mostly in the garage before going places. And if it happens to be outside and that cold outside I use my remote start. When I have heard it the squeak goes away quickly.

    You are all the best!

It's really no big deal with the cold weather, but just worried that it will eventually get worse regardless of the temp.

May mention it to the dealer at the 20k check, but don't want to be one "of those guys" who always complains about everything. But, as "tomsinamerica" said, it IS a 45k truck after all...:mudding:

Just bring it up so it’s documented. They'll need to reproduce it before attempting a fix.

my fan motor just started making the noise when it got real cold here. Once it warms up, the noise goes away. I am gonna mention it to the dealer when i take it for its 25000 mile service. the fan is easy to get to. If it fails outside of warranty, just need some basic hand tools to change it out.

On a new truck, I wouldn’t give it a second thought to bring it in and have the service center repair.

Mine started squeaking at 19k miles at the end of 2018. Just brought it in for the 20k oil service and they said it was normal. Then again, they don’t drive it everyday so they can’t really hear the difference.

Time to look into myself...perhaps if the bearing on the blower birdcage were to go completely bad and stop working then they’d be force to cover it. Or, spend the $100 on a new one and change it myself.

Same here. Does it on the lowest fan setting when the truck is cold. It drives me nuts. I’m taking it in tomorrow.

Don't know about the Tundras (thankfully mine doesn't squeak) but the Tacomas are known for this. Mine got to me so bad I had to replace it. There was no shaft bearing to take out and re-grease as the brilliant engineers used a oil soaked bushing. When the oil dried out it was like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Changed mine out with an OE TYC brand (I could get it in an hour, delivered, with return if it didn’t work). Definitely fixed the squeaking. Now I wonder if it’s blowing out as much as before?

If anyone decides to do this, just get OEM.

I have mine replaced several times under warranty. I bought one from 1A Auto and it went out as well. They replaced it.

My 2015 does the windsheild creak and now the blower motor squeak. I am a noise nazi when it comes to cars- drives me crazy. I waited 6 years to buy this truck and I am getting a bit frustrated and disappointed with the overall quality. As someone said before, if I wanted issues I would have saved myself some money and bought a domestic.

I took my 2019 sequoia in for the same problem today. They changed the cabin filter and said it had leafs in it, a few leafs. So I picked it up noise still there. I was advised to bring it back so they can clean out the blower motor it will cost 170.00 haha. Yeah for a 10-15 min job no thanks will do that myself. My car only has 10,000 miles on it and the advisor said the blower motor wasn’t covered under warranty if it is actually the blower that’s bad ‍♀️.
