I had a pic from someone who blacked out the whole badge, but left the 1794, & Edition parts their natural color. It looked really good, and stood out more than an all blacked out badge.

Ohhhhh, that badge. I thought you meant the big T in the middle of the grill. The 1794 badge I plan on taking apart and blacking out (with the same textured paint) everything but the 1794 Edition and Tundra. I’m trying to find a bronze paint to match my rims and paint em that color.

Bought the bulge grey. Grill came black, primed and painted it and the bumper ends.

    Ok, I'm in.

Debadged the entire truck (that's a PITA). Magic solution in the tub and looking good after 1.5 hrs. The Toyota badge at the bottom looks completely unfazed (Toyota tough no doubt) and the iForce badges aren't going down without a fight either.

About the only thing going back on is the 4x4 and iForce badges and I'm going to try and color match them just to be different. I also have a couple door handles to do but I couldn't get the friggin screws out of the back to get the chrome caps off.

Anybody chuck their whole door handle assembly in this stuff?

Use the mixture of Muric acid and peroxide but be careful. Scuff up the chrome a little since it looks like there might be a clear coat on it. Chrome on door handles will be done in a couple hours. Don’t leave it overnight.

Don’t chuck the whole handle assembly in either. I think there may be a bit too much metal in there as a whole. Many places I’ve seen this solution posted says “keep away from metal.

My handles were stuck for a bit as well. Bit of wd40 freed them up after a bit.

Done in about 2.5hrs. Just a little cleanup to do.

I have black handles on currently. Picked up a pair of chrome handles just to do this and color match. It's the little screw in the back of the handle that holds the chrome cap on that's giving me grief. I'll get them eventually.

Thanks for all the tips gents.

Since EVERYONE does black so I'm going a different route.

Did a quicky spray as a test on the SR5 badge since I'm not going to reuse it.

    Thoughts?

This was the holy grail I have been searching for...ez off, bleach was a fail. This mix pulled that chrome right off! In process of painting. Will post another after the clear cures and I can polish.

Just wanted to say thanks for the thread. I had a bit of fun mixing up a chemical bath, de-chroming door handles and mirror caps and painting everything up. My painting skills could use some work, but came out good to me. Did a more in-depth write-up in my build thread.

Thanks. I got my paint, primer and clearcoat at www.automotivetouchup.com. Takes a while to get it mixed up and shipped, but color was a good match and they had everything I needed.

With the blue of my truck, I found that the plastic pieces I painted (door handles and mirror caps) are a better match than the metal bumper, even using the same cans of paint. My bumper is close, but in some light has more purple in it than the truck itself. Don't see that in the plastic pieces. So not a 100% match, but wasn't expecting that from spray cans...

I know its been a decent amount of time since you guys done the color matching. How's it holding up? To the OP I have to give thanks. You have solved my dilemma and I can't wait for a few days off work to get the terrible chrome door handles color matched. Surprised this didnt show up quicker in my search for removing chrome from plastic.

Mine hasn't been a full year yet, but so far so good. Put multiple layers of good clearcoat on for protection.
