Reason I ask is because my carrier bearing is starting to have a small amount of play. It will be replaced. The u-joints seem fine, but figured while on it to have a shop do them. Don’t want to if others with many miles haven’t. They are greased often and the rear is a Cardan Joint.

I've owned my 2005 Tundra 4.7L , Limited Crewcab ( been told proper term is CrewMax ) for almost 3 years . It has 289K + miles and I recently had to replace the alternator . Up to this point , that's the total expense I've incurred . I recently let my son-in-law borrow it to take on a trip to move his son to our area . We live right outside Chattanooga , Tn. and his son lives in Stroudsburg , Pa. ! Not sure of actual mileage but figure at least 1500 miles ? He had no problems ( knock on wood ) on the trip . Truck has high mileage but runs very well and looks pretty good doing it . I've read various posts on here about specified times to replace the timing belt and I don't have a clue as to whether it has been done ever ? May come back to haunt me in the future but can't financially do it at this time . Is there any way to check the wear on the belt without tearing engine apart ?

My 2005 crewcab 4.7 L has 289k miles and looks and run fine . Of course , every vehicle is unique to itself and my situation may not reflect your situation . Just inspect your possible purchase , maybe take an SAE mechanic with you to look it over . Vehicles are like women , you never know what you have until you have them !

Crewmax is 2nd gen and up. 1st gens with the true back doors are double cans. The suicide doors are access cabs.

Let's see..... replaced a radiator, 3-4 ignition coils and a battery. 3 sets of Michelins in that time, just started the 3rd set.

Wow that’s awesome, original tranny? You do any drain and fills?

What other brand of truck can you buy and do such little work and drive for so long!

192k here on my 2002 V6 SR5 AC, automatic, 4x4. She ain't fast, but she's never failed to start.

Lots of memories with this truck, and unless someone offers me way more than she's worth, she'll stay in the family till she turns to dust.10641034_928223470524628_978888984664995035_n.jpg

That's what I'm doing with my 1997 T-100, 4 WD. Just hit a quarter million miles and about to put a new set of Bilstein 4600's on her and keep on trucking. Destination: one half million miles.

Just did the 6112s up front, and 5160s out back. Replaced the upper and lower ball joints, tie rods, steering rack, and LCAs while I was at it. Just decided to freshen everything up.

Handles way better, but definitely stiffer than before. Should be good for another good while.

I hope you didn't just jinx yourself. I said that about my 05 Tacoma @ 160k miles and the next day I was rear-ended at a stop light by a Durango going 55 mph. It broke my driver side seat recline function, knocked the factory stereo head unit out of the dash, shattered the rear glass and bent the frame. The Durango was TKO'd as well as the hatch back it pushed me into, but the Tacoma never stopped running and didn't loose any fluids. They used it to push the hatchback out of traffic because the two were so mashed together the tow truck had to winch them appart.

I had a mild wrist and foot sprain and that was it.

It was a great truck so I stepped up to a used tundra with 123k miles on it. It now has 165k miles and I still love it as much as the day I bought it.

There are some impressive numbers in this thread. I'm only at 155K on my 2002. The only non-routine item I've had to replace is a CV axle. I'm the 2nd owner.

Just bought a 05 Double Cab with 84k miles. I plan on driving this baby for many many years.

Ran into a guy who’s mechanic had a tundra that he drove to 500k miles then traded it in on a new one and planned to do the same again.

My truck was passed down to me from my dad and I'm nearing 180k. Toyotas are amazing not one problem but 1 worn sensor and worn spark plugs.

I’m at 321k, bought it brand new in 2003. Replaced original radiator at 200k, original alternator went out a few months ago.

I'm curious if the high mileage guy are still rockin the original starter. Replacing the starter on these trucks sucks badly.
