I was thinking of something like that, put the air hose chuck In the gas cap, or in the grille, or by the trailer lights plug

Good idea, but I got too much junk in the console for that. I thought about behind rear seat, but then i have to run the hose out somewhere. I want something permanent with a hose attachment on the truck.

Hey everyone! Sorry for being so MIA. Has been a busy holiday season for me! Also I just changed new jobs over the new year and the old shop I was making these mounts at will not allow me to make them there any longer... I still want to make more for everyone but I need to find a new solution to building the mount now. I still have the same CAD drawing so its an easy process once I find the place to have them cut and bent. I will add everyone who asked already to a list and once i figure out how to make the mounts again i can contact each person to see if you are still looking for a mounting solution. Thank you for understanding and hope to have more made soon! Brandon

What do people use these air compressors for typically. Just wondering.

Anything like what? Since you want to play that game lol

Example: Air tools, Adding air to tires. Question is more of what do Tundra drivers use them for typically. Day to Day.

    Function before sparkle.
Tire inflation, air locker activation, rear airbag inflation, pool toy inflation (that big swan isn't going to inflate itself!), air powered tools (depending on the compressor).

Air tools, lockers, airing tires after running trails.

Day to day most likely gunna be tire pressure maintenance but could be used for lockers in bad weather or air horns. Even an air gun after a truck wash

So I use a portable air compressor. Mine was not cheap either around 100 bucks. Does all those things. I guess why not just use that. This is where I was going with it.

I can however see the use of it being for a portable air tool. Not sure why I would need Air Horns lol. Unless your warning the whole town.

But I dig it. Why not.

While some seem to make this like pulling teeth, bschaper84 summed it up pretty well. You probably don't wheel much so maybe the terms eluded you. People generally air down when they go off roading. This is done mainly in more technical areas where on road pressures mean a firm on road tire structure is sub optimal. Many noob mistakes would not happen if the tire wasn't so square and firm. Airing down allows for a more forgiving grippy tire. Going over rocks become easier as more traction is allowed, and the sit and spin is reduced. Next time you find yourself stuck, you might try airing down to 20 or so. (all tires if 4x4) Another advantage is you spine. Rough roads, rocks, and speed = ouch if one or more of your disks are not happy.

Your portable is fine for this application, as it would be for blowing up a basketball, bike tires, balloons, or your air mattress. What it can not do is operate your "lockers".

"Lockers" is a wheeler term for rear, and/or front differential lockers. When one needs a "locked diff" and did not buy a factory electronic locker/s, one option is an air locker. You may want to segway over to youtube to see what they do at this point as I've had a few, and really am not feeling up to explaining it. ARB locker would be a good search point. Moving on, the air compressor is mounted to the vehicle, and air hoses are plugged to the differential/s so that a flick of a switch (in the cab) the compressed air locks the diff/s.

Finally at the end of the day, when your son breaks his rear diff in his GX, and you have to get it home, air tools are your friends.

So the advantage is, it is always there. It is good in town for when you want to rescue the damsel in distress with much needed air for her tire. It's there when you don't want to pay the gas station for the miracle of air. It's there for the before mentioned basketball, bike tires, balloons, or air mattress. It's also there when you are camping at the beach and you want to blow the sand off your sack. But most importantly on the trail it'll get you up that incline, and aired back up at the end of an off road session.

How was that for popping my cherry as first post as a new member? Then again I guess I just tooted my own air horn.

    Got it! Makes sense.
Thank you for taking the time.
I am not 4x4 and only in town truck. So yes will never need on board air compressor.

But I can see how in the great outdoors it would make sense.
