I have been looking both of these. Just for added monitoring gauges. Are they worth it?
Let's see what you have, how you have it mounted, and if they are worth it or not.

What guages do you normally monitor?

Which one is better? UltraGauge or ScanGauge?

The Ultra guage will Not give you trans temp if you are needeing that. The Scan guage Will.

I have the ultra guage. I really like having it. I just installed it in to my Tundra. Not sure if you can program it to show Trans temp for the tundra but I did it in my tacoma. I have the window suction mount and really like having it.

I have a scan gauge to monitor trans temps once in a while. it is not mounted and I lay it down near the shifter. the cable that comes with it is very stiff I am looking to find a shorter & softer cable or maybe make one myself. u can monitor up to 4 and I have trans torque converter and pan temps and coolant temp and intake temp. sometimes I switch intake temp with voltage.

I use the Ultra Gauge to monitor the transmission temp on my Tundra (it also worked on my Tacoma).

This is for the Ultragauge MX 1.3, the other version does not allow you to program it.
The Blue ( Bluetooth version) that works with a cellphone also can be setup to do this. But we did not want to rely on a phone .

    ATHiker,

    FYI
there is some similarities (as it should be) between ultragauge and scangauge code.
scangaugeII TDATA is same, anything after TCTRL is the same. that is I have programmed the same data 00090005FFD8
for oil pan I have 2808 and you have 1808, for TC I have 3808 and you have 2808 !!!
anyways I may be comparing apples and oranges ... as I have mentioned before, I got my code from HTGreen thread on this site.

    question:
Just curious what is the output of Torque Converter lockup? is it Yes/No?
I may try to program that into scangauge see if it works. I can tell if it is locked or not but a displayed msg would be nice also.

when I bought the scangaugeII, I don't think ultragauge had trans temp so I did not give it a consideration. I like the big display of ultragauge.

So are people running the codes for a 2012-2015 tundra for a 2016+ or was the general consensus that ultragauge doesn’t work the 2016+ for trans temps?

These are the codes for trans temps from ultra gauges web site but I’m still getting error

I have the Ultra gauge in my 1st gen. Had it in my Xterra before that. I'm pretty happy with it.

I just switched to the 12-15 codes as well and are now reading a number at least. I just finished wiring up the ultra gauge so when I get home I’ll mount it. Curious if they are ‘real’ representive numbers or not we’ll see

have you looked into any of the apps? your phone is already in the car so why not use that as the display rather than mounting another unit?

both of these run on iOS or that other one with the little green guy.

your readings are in typical range of my scangauge. Not that it proves anything, they both could be off/wrong since the codes are very similar ... But most likely we can assume they are correct since I can't think of any other way to verify the readings :pccoffee:
I like the digital readout of gmc!

True. We’ll see I’m curious as to how much the higher temp helps with gas mileage. Ima run it as is for a while see what I’m getting gas mileage wise then attempt to pin the thermostat and see how much cooler and how much worst the gas mileage gets. Apparently the higher tranny running temps where Toyota’s way of improving gas mileage

Now that we have had a group buy, how do you guys like the Ultragauge?

I did something that might be different from most, I put my SG2 back in my truck and put the UG in my GTI since it apparently can do air fuel ratio. I still need to do a lot of calibration but it was sending me low fuel alarms when I had a quarter tank. Then it sent an RPM alarm when I hit 4k RPM, but I fixed that one. Same day it gave a speed alarm when I hit.... well, double the speed limit for Canada, but I don't live in Canada. I looked to my wife and said this thing is worse than you! She likes it.

Too early to compare it with the trusted SG2.

I like mine. Take the time to set it up and turn off the stupid alarms and good to go. I had mine from my taco though so. I only use it for the tranny temps. The truck comes with pretty much everything else I’d need.

I have had the UltraGuage for 5+ years. If you are into tuning and real time performance monitoring, they help. I went with UG over SG due to pricing. SG is at least double of UG last time I checked. After a while it became a novelty item for me, so it's just sitting in a box now. There are wireless OBDII devices which work equally well and are probably cheaper. I have used TorquePro and it can be customized just the UG.

I have been running a SGII on my Tacoma for 5 years.
It was absolutely essential to monitor Trans-temps when towing.
At the time I was towing a 5000lb 6.5'tall tandem enclosed which was sucking the life out of my Tacoma.
It has helped me troubleshoot coilpack issues, monitor voltage, clear codes,
I like the SGII for the code reader / customizable screen color/ programmable Xgauge.
I purchase a 2nd unit for my Tundra recently.
If you watch or sign-up for Advance Auto emails, they send out 25% off coupons every so often.
With Bank of America Cash back deals and 25% off coupon I scored a SCII for 118$

I just ordered the blue. I did not want to add a gauge cluster to the truck. Have had SG in the past. It was ok, did the job
