    I'm at 7100 miles on my 2018 Tundra Limited. I just finished up a 2000 mile trip, and over the last 400mi or so I developed a "whirring/whining" sort of sound.

    Its most pronounced above 68+ mph when pressing the gas lightly. Seems to go away as soon as I let off. Here is a video I took in an attempt to record the noise (as always, sound quality on a video doesn't make it sound near as pronounced as it actually is);

    *Updated video* Sound starts about 7 seconds in, and can be heard best between 16-19 seconds

    Also, since threads are worthless without pics... Here's the beaut;

    I'm not able to tell where its coming from. I just uploaded a different video that captures the sound better. It starts around 7 seconds in, and is best heard between 16-19 seconds

    I'm guessing maybe the gasket behind the throttle body? Ther is a metal mesh screen some mememem on here have said of same noise and replaced with just only the ring gasket and noise goes away.

    Maybe someone else chime in and assit

    I've heard of this, it just seemed odd to me that it would all of a sudden start making the noise out of nowhere after 6700 miles.

    No mods what-so-ever. It started on the last day of my roadtrip. Nothing significant about the drive either that may have caused this, the entire drive was on the highway.

    I briefly checked everything on the intake and all seemed tight. I'll check it out again. I've got an appointment with the dealer tomorrow for them to have a listen/look as well

    Wouldn’t that be more of a squeal??

    Buckbuck says it’s something loose on the intake system.

    Is it a electrical noise around the 2100 RPM? High pitched.

    Hard to tell from your video, but I noticed a soft whirring sound coming from the engine bay or dash on the passenger side of the truck. Both the truck I test drove and the truck I bought had it, so I assume it is a normal part of the vacuum system or something. I think the only reason I noticed it initially was because it was a new sound, different than anything in my Tacoma. After a week I don’t notice it anymore. My guess is your truck has always made that sound and you’re just now noticing it. Can’t hurt to get it checked out though.

    The noise is hard to hear in the video. Service tech at the dealer was able to hear the sound on the drive and agreed he’d never heard it before in any other tundra.

    It’s definitely not the throttle body screen noise, I can hear that whistle but it doesn’t bother me at all.

    My father was in the truck on the road trip and began hearing the sound the same day, without me mentioning it at all.

    Update: dealer confirmed noise is abnormal and suspects it to be the rear differential. They’ve ordered a new third member, should be repaired tomorrow. Fingers crossed that solves the issue

    I was driving back from Austin on the toll road doing about 80mph and heard a noise for the first time that sounded like a kazoo!

    Mine just started doing this in November, the first time was during a cold startup for maybe 10 seconds. Now it doesn't do it at start up but right around 2050 to 2150 rpm then goes away once out of the rpm range, very much like a kazoo or a whirring sound, checked my fan and it spins freely, tried it with a/c on and a/c off and right around 2100 rpm I get the sound. Wont always do it otherwise would rev engine in park and try to track down. Was thinking a pulley or maybe AIP issue?

    Well this thread is dated in August. I can only imagine the op got the 3rd member installed from dealer by now. Wonder if that fixed it. @Evader53 was your problem solved?

    The sound is similar to feedback noise but definitely engine related. Seamed to be a couple posts about it but no resolution, guess a trip to the dealer is in order and hopefully I can repeat the noise, figure its powersteering, AIP or pulley.

    I also had a rear diff installed at 700 miles on a 2018 sr5 4x4.
    I noted a high pitched whine from the rear of the vehicle at ~55mph with light throttle, very similar to what the op's video sounds like.
    A new differential solved it the noise.

    Since resolutions are rarely posted, I replaced the pcv valve and it appeared to fix the whine/whir. The old valve was definetly not as ‘free’ as the new one.

    Mine does the same, light throttle from 55-70mph, has done it since new 5k miles ago. I just turn the radio up a little since it isn't that loud. Sounds like someone saying whooooooooooooooo.

    Mine does it at about 30 mph and up... It's loud enough that my 8 year old daughter won't sit in the backseat. It's even louder if I slightly open the back window. I only have 1400 miles on the truck. Could it be the fuel pump?

    I've wondered the same, it 100% relates to the throttle input as I can let off and it goes away, then gently push the pedal and whooooooooo sound starts, gets slightly louder with a little more push.

    Figured I'd bump this since I've been experiencing it more now that there is construction on the highway limiting speeds to 50-65mph where the noise is most noticeable. Attached is a link to a video this guy made with a camera under the truck that found out the issue. It is the carrier assembly and from reading, is rather widespread with Toyota trucks / SUVs. My wife's 2020 4Runner did it also but only at higher speeds 75-85mph. FYI it doesn't seem to be a safety or issue that will get worse, just an annoying noise you can live with or decide to get the dealer to fix with new parts so long as they are willing. The noise can also vary in intensity from one assembly to the next, mine isn't too bad so I dunno what I'll end up doing.

    Update to my whine issue:

    Just like the person in my video linked above, Toyota is replacing my rear carrier assembly. My dealership service manager is a great guy (named Elvis!) and he went the extra mile for me. Toyota required him to have the rear assembly opened up and tolerances checked along with the fluid checked before they would approve the fix. So my truck is down until the new part shows up which thankfully was in stock. Elvis told me there was metal in the diff fluid but didn't say how bad, it's still the factory fill. Truck has never been abused, started the noise at 1000 miles, currently has 8700 miles. I'm sure it would have kept on going forever but dang that noise was annoying. Also got my TRD PRO suspension sitting on the floor doing nothing now... Sigh

    So yeah, not an easy quick fix for anyone else that happens to see this and has the issue.
