When I go SC and Full tuning is available, I would be wishing even more mine is FFV to have the lines and Teflon coated, anodized fittings, etc.

Nice! The problem now is that the blend is not consistent now. I can vary from E85 to E70 depending on the season and gas station. My older AEM doesn’t support a flex fuel sensor so I used to have to measure the E content at the pump, whip out the laptop and adjust the timing accordingly. The GM flex fuel sensor is the standard to use with tuners today.

Because of this, I just bought E90 by the barrel to be consistent. Still way cheaper than race fuel. On VP C16 i made 1115rwhp pushing the injectors past 90% duty cycle.

Back to the point, I would think Toyota’s game on Flex Fuel would be on par with GM.

I have a 2016 FFV 5.7L V8 4x4 crewmax. I feel the need to notify the public that my car was having really really bad rough starts in the morning - didn’t matter if weather was cold or warm - first start of the day always sounded like the engine was choking. I googled online and found this site and many other message boards about the Alcohol Density Calculation problems and the need to “reflash” the ECM (see Toyota Service Bulletin T-SB-0058-13).
I took the truck in to the dealer yesterday, they did a cold start this morning after it sat in the lot overnight, and concluded it had this problem that is specific to FFV Tundra engines.
The service advisor said that Toyota just came out with a new TSB a few days ago updating the old TSB so that it now covers the fuel pump and the “reflashing” of the ECM, it now also covers all FFV Tundras from 2009 - 2019. The new TSB is T-SB-0166-19.
So I hope this info helps, hit up your dealer if you are having enginestart-up problems with your FFVengine Tundras, and pass the word around!
If I had known about these engine issues, I would have NEVER bought a FFV engine!!!
This TSB engine fix is only good if you’re under 96 months or 80,000 miles!!!

Storm Trooper Shift Knob. BMF BATL Wheels.
Would not steer away from a FFV. Only differences are the ECU has a tune to deal with E85 when the gas tank sensor senses it in the tank. There is a larger 2 speed fuel pump in the tank to deal with the additional fuel delivery requirements of E85 roughly 25 to 30% more fuel needed. The injectors are larger to deal with the additional fuel requirements of E85.

Alcohol density reading with the tundra is more of the issue. Toyota has a problem with it. I have had to have mine reset several times at the dealer.

I have a 13 crewmax SR5 TRD with 85,000 miles and haven't had any issues.I like the fact that it has the larger injectors and that the entire fuel system is coated to prevent rusting because of the E85 fuel.

Speaker replacement, added amp and (2) 10's under seat. Weathertech floor mats. Salex organizers. Ziebart undercoating. RCI front, transmission/diff, and gas tank skids received, waiting for spring install. Compustar remote starter. front/rear dash cam.
The fix works regardless of mileage, you just might have to pay a little bit out of pocket. I dealt with this issue last week. The dealership reflashed the computer, and pressure tested the fuel pump. The dealer only charged me the diagnostic fee of $145. I would not hesitate to buy a Ffv. The FFV issue is a minor inconvenience at best.

I didn't realize that the Tundra had the non- FFV option when I bought mine. All the trucks at the dealership I purchased from were all FFV. Had I known, I would have gone with a NON-FFV. I haven't had any issues but I also will not run E-85 in my vehicle.

Strangely enough, I run 100% Methanol in my racecar.FB_IMG_1494134674482.jpg

The same issue here. I have stations here that sell no alcohol gas. I would use it for my boat when it is stored for the winter. But my choices are wither aviation fuel (I think that was like $7/gal) or very high octane gas, which again was darn expensive and not needed by the outboard.

I wouldn’t have known about the potential issues of the FFV when I was shopping. So I probably would have bought one if everything else was right like it was when I bought my Tundra (right time/ right place/ right price, literally just strolled in to a dealership on a whim and left with a truck). But after hanging around here and seeing the alcohol density issues I would make sure to stay away from those now. Hell, I have enough issues with alcohol. I don’t need my truck to have one, too.

You’re saying all of these changes were implemented on the tundra? I don’t believe this is correct information.
