4th Generation Tundra 2021 ??

    I see an earlier post here that the 2014's were the start of the 3rd generation of Tundra. Is that a official answer? I would call it a body and interior "refresh". Personally I can't call it a new generation as the drive-train (5.7) is a carry over from many years before.

    Having upgraded to a larger RV trailer 25' and towing it with my 2005 4Runner (4.7 L V-8) and knowing we were doing a Alaska trip in 2016, I didn't want to take a 10+ vehicle on such a trip. So in Jan. of 2014 I purchased my first Toyota Tundra. Pulled that RV 5500 - 6000 lbs (loaded) with ease. The 4Runner actually did a good job in handling it also. So in 2016 did a 14k Alaska trip without any issues.

    A year ago purchase a new RV, somewhat bigger (you always have to go bigger) 29' but 7600-8000 lbs loaded. Handles it fine for the weight, plenty of HP., but the trailer is "VERY" tongue heavy. It's 840 lbs. dry and in the 1100 / 1200 loaded. The Tundra is only rated at a mind numbing 980 lbs (???) of hitch capacity. My 4Runner was 1120 lbs. of hitch capacity. Hence I added Firestone air bags to the rear suspension of the truck.

    So in the back of my mind I'm thinking, were due for another Tundra...right, there has to be one in the pipeline, especially the drive-train. All the other Big 3 have far more towing capacities than the Tundra. In no way I'm I knocked my very simplistic / reliable Tundra...There is just "zero" intel on the web on anything but rumors....

    Even my dealer's GM said, "corporate tells us squat" period....My dealer is in no way a truck location, so very limited on their truck sales and info...

    Was off and on with the Tundra Talk website, but things are slow lately. I just happened to catch an article on Tundra about "Cam shaft tower seal leak" issues that brought me here...

    For serious towing, without hitch capacity or payload worries, go with a Ford Superduty F250 or 350, and be done with it. Tundras have low payload capacity, and squat a lot when loaded. Remember, tongue weight gets subtracted from payload. 8000 lb trailer will have approx 800 lb tongue weight. Do the math, not much left over for passengers and gear in bed. Gets dangerous when you go over rated capacity. Food for thought.

    Tundra Talk sucks, lot of immature Dbags over there, and the board is so slow. This is much better to get information here, there are still douche bags, but at least they post.

    Welcome, nobody knows any information on the 4th gen Tundra, it'll probably be just a refresh with the same drivetrain lol. Don't hold your breath.

    Calibrated Power 5 Tune pack, Allison 1000 tune, PPE deep trans pan, Cold/Hot CAC pipes, Banks CAI, PCV reroute, resonator delete, S&B 62 gal fuel tank, B&W GN hitch

    This is for the year 2016, because that's what I have. Notice the 1500 load capacity of 800 lbs and 1200 lbs tongue weight, load distributing. Now the GM is a little better on the required LD up to 7000 lbs where as the Tundra is 5000 lbs.

    Now also notice that the 2500/3500 tongue weight is only 1500 lbs load distributing. I really don't see the truck manufactures changing this much regardless of what brand you go with. Hell, I really didn't gain much on tongue ratings going from a Tundra to a 1 ton GMC. Where I did gain is trailer weight ratings and GN/5th wheel ratings. I can dump 3808 lbs in my bed and not worry about hurting the truck (I know it says 4000 lbs, but I have that little yellow sticker inside my door that dropped my rating as well).

    Travel Trailers are a whole different beast in itself. A lot of these TT manufactures keep the gross weight down, and sacrifice your trucks capacity via tongue weight, and then rate it 1/2 ton tow rating capable. Your particular new 29' TT almost max's out my 1 ton ratings...if that says anything.

    IMG_1618.jpg I do have a rear kitchen RV unit and the fresh water tank is under the kitchen. I also converted a cabinet under the frig to be my tool cabinet. If it wasn't for the "brand" reliability factor that comes with a Toyota product, I would be more open to explore the other Big 3 trucks. But, I just can't at this time.

    Close family member had 3 Ram's 1500, 2500 and 3500 and all of them were a disaster. "Other" family member has I good relationship with a flatbed drive for his F-150.
