alright so im not a huge noob, i understand the way the packages work in a way. for example, i have a SR5 TRD w/ convince package and tow package (based on VIN, and obvious equipment on the truck) - and i understand the items listed out in each package. totally clear on all that....but heres what im a little fuzzy on: if its a 4x4 - is it automatically a TRD? or can you get a 4x4 without the bedside decals and TRD 18" wheels? for example, my buddies is a platinum tundra with the 20's... although its 4x4, it doesnt have the bedside decals or 18"wheels...is that just trumped by the platinum package which gives you the bigger wheels and removes decals for a cleaner look? are you still paying for the TRD package? can you not get a platinum TRD? idk im just confused about that part and i feel like im not conveying it well...anyone catching my drift?

I’m pretty sure. TRD is just the shock and sticker package. 4 x 4 is available without it. Unsure if the different shocks come with all 4 x 4 models. There is really nothing to special about the TRD package.

As far as i know TRD package is just for SR5 models. So to answer your question if you get a platinum with bigger wheels you are not paying for the TRD package. They come with different suspension set up.

4x4 does not equal TRD Off-road. You can get 4x4 without the package

TRD Off-road can be added to SR5 and Limited 4x2 and 4x4 models.

Upgrades standard wheels to 18-in. split 5-spoke TRD Off-Road Package alloy wheels and P275/65R18 tires. Includes trail-tuned Bilstein® shock absorbers, engine skid plate, fuel tank skid plate, front tow hooks (on 4x2 models; standard on all 4x4 models), LED headlights and LED fog lights (on SR5 models only), TRD Off-Road floor mats (on SR5 and Limited models only), and bedside TRD Off-Road decal

Platinum package cannot get the TRD Offroad option as it’s considered more luxury.

Welcome, from Akron! What @mountainpete said...most importantly TRD off road wheels are supposed to be forged instead of cast, and skid plates installed.
Haven't seen real info on the suspension difference. (Dampening rate, ride height etc,...trd not trd pro) Although everyone pretends is readily available on here so they dont have to address it.

You can get TRD on 1794 as a zero cost option (I think its actually a slight discount)

TRD package on my Limited was $50. Glad to pay it for the skids, shocks and 18” wheels vs. the chrome 20s.

The TRD off road package is upgraded shocks and skid plates.

The TRD pro package is upgraded suspension and 2.5 inch lift as well as leather interior with red Ccent stitching and the side bed stamps TRD PRO.

If you get any type of TRD sport or off road it will have the bedside stickers. No?

Yep. It does sound odd but I assume it’s because Toyota considers the 20” limited chrome wheels a significant upgrade. When you take the charge off for those and replace them with 18” wheels, skids, shocks and stickers, it basically evens out.

I don't mean any disrespect but no way can those wheels be that much up charge so you can get a TOTAL off road package. Hell the off road rims and tires are more money than the limited !

Here is the window sticker from my 2018 Limited. Apparently I got ripped off and paid $70 for the Off Road Package!!!

Thanks. Maybe mine was $70 as well. Regardless, a pittance to pay for all that stuff!

I feel the TRD package isn't anything real special, especially if the truck is going to be modified. I will say it's nice knowing there's a plastic skid plate under my fuel tank when the tank is resting on dirt, mud and sand.

They are aluminum skid plates. 2 for $70 is a screaming deal. Yes aftermarket are heavier, but are several hundred $$ each. At least these will buy you some time for sliders first.

And everyone writes off the value of forged wheels when doing some serious off roading. If youre really utilizing the skid plates and running aftermarket cast wheels @ 20-25 psi you're going thru several replacement wheels regularly. In which case $70 for the package IS a steal.

Especially with the decals which add 25 hp, haha.
