Early Christmas yesterday was turkey and marinated pork loin, mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts and stuffing. Tonite, prime rib, baked potatoes and a bottle of malbec, peach and pumpkin pies for dessert. Tomorrow will be Christmas brunch with lots of bacon.
    Merry Christmas everyone!

The wife and her family always celebrated Christmas eve instead of Christmas day. We've got the whole crew coming over in T-minus 3.5 hrs.

We went to costco to look for a 10lb prime rib, wasn't impressed with what they had for the price (boneless was $12/lb). My other options were regular grocery stores orrrrrr.....go over to Whole Paycheck....i mean Foods, and get something:

Off to Whole Foods we went, and tried to get a 10lb dry aged prime rib, but they only had a 6lb'er. I had them wrap that one up for us, and also a 6lb non dry aged one that the butcher gave us a deal on because they didn't have exactly what we wanted.
    1wUXEzGv8htOa2I5WBtZn_rD7OdjbL4ZMNvggNHX_992534be5f691022f9dc1100c055d552bbc7c608.jpg

I took them out of the fridge first thing this morning, to start to bring them up to temperature. The left is the non dry aged with a Santa Maria seasoning that the butcher highly recommended and is going to be cooked in the Big Green Egg. The right one is the dry aged one that will get a herb butter seasoning and will be cooked in the oven.

Here's the seasoning that's on the left one, ingredients aren't anything super fancy, but sure smells good.

I'll try to update with some pictures along the way. The oven and egg will start warming up at 2:30pst

LOL randy Quaid. I know the feeling, I used to think Whole Foods was cool because I’d sit at the bar while she grocery shopped then I saw the bill. Good lord!

Haha! Cabbage rolls were the one meal I hated as a child- ugh! I could maybe eat them now, but not racing around looking for an opportunity.

I have to work tonight and tomorrow night, so tonight I'm taking in a Honeybaked ham to serve along with my friend's "Thanksgiving casserole" (basically turkey and all the trimmings in one dish; looks disgusting but it's tasty) and everyone else is bringing pot luck. We'll do a variation on a 'white elephant' gift exchange (basically, no upper $ limit; we swap new-in-the-box great stuff we received but realized we've never used in a year... only rule is, gotta be able to picture someone on the room really wanting it, i.e. no scented holiday candles, crystal paperweights, or other crap.)

Tomorrow my honey will make and deliver (English) sausage rolls. I like 'em and almost every restaurant will be closed... so my co-workers will eat them. ;)

My family's Christmas tradition is to have brunch, then split off to our respective spouses' families; grew up doing it this way:

    Cheesy grits
    Scrambled eggs
Link sausage, spicy and not spicy
    Bacon
    Chicken livers
    Almond pastry

    ... and fresh fruit! :D

I'll miss brunch, but wake to leftovers. And, well, starch and meat will taste good no matter when....

The family is gathered at my folks for lots of Mediterranean dishes. Some of my favorites are the grilled calimari, octopus with diced onion and olive oil. A seafood stew for our main course. I’m preparing to get my eat on. Hope all of yours are great as well!
