Test drove a 1794 and a Titan the other day...

I test drove a 1794 edition the other day and I must say I thought it was awesome. It was very comfortable, it had the TRD exhaust on it so it was comfortably loud, it had very nice leather. I thought it was a little orange, when it should be more brown, but that's not a dealbreaker. The backseats where super big and comfortable.

And then I got pulled over...

Turns out the salesman didn't put on a dealer plate and I was driving around in an unregistered vehicle. Thanks salesman! The officer wasn't very nice and gave me a stern talk / lesson. He was kind of a dick, but I assume he was yelling at me so that the salesman riding in the passenger seat would never forget again. He yelled at the salesman too. Luckily I got off without a ticket.

Some things I didn't like: No Apple Carplay, no remote start, no heated rear seats, and other small complaints. Apple Carplay is a must for any car now-a-days, and the current radio is outdated. No pushbutton, although I don't really care about that, more the remote start (I live in Michigan)

    On to the Nissan Titan:
The Titan is a very comfortable car as well. It had the remote start, Apple Carplay, and higher trims have heated rear seats and steering wheels, but the leather wasn't very good (in the SL). There was no place to put my phone, however. That is a big miss in 2018. The Tundra has that nice center console for it.

I test drove an SL and I think I knew more than the salesman too. I asked if it had an integrated tow brake controller and he had no idea what I was talking about.

Anyways, the SL was not the highest package Nissan has, but it was the highest package the dealer had at the time. I have a 2004 Nissan Titan and the thing is a tank, although I know a lot of other people have problems.

The price point of the Nissan Titans do not compare to the Toyota Tundra. The highest trim of the Titans is the Platinum Reserve (Similar to the 1794 Edition) and although it has a few more goodies than the 1794, it was $70k. Now, they take a ton off the sticker price ($8k I think), but it's not enough to make it anywhere near worth it, IMO. $55k is about the highest I saw the Tundras run, fully loaded. Plus you get a Toyota quality vehicle.

They also had me test drive the Titan XD with the Cummins Diesel. It was really disappointing. I floored it and it went 0-45 in about 6 or 7 seconds. I mean this thing just could not go anywhere any time soon.

Also, they had the TRD Pro, and seeing it in person is just awesome. It really is a very nice truck, and I don't know which one I like better (compared to the 1794).

The problem with that TRD Pro I saw, was that it was $7000 ABOVE MSRP!! The dealer included the $7000 market adjustment because they're popular. Is that common?? I have never heard of that on a truck... The only time I saw a market adjustment was on a 2017 GT350 Mustang

This was in Nevada, where they have a lot more Tundras driving around than my home state Michigan. Do you think I'll run into that problem back home?

Yeah, above msrp is pretty common on Pros. My friend has a 2017 Titan, and is very happy with it. His only complaint is the complete lack of aftermarket accessories available. (Headlights mainly)

The one thing about the Titan that is really dumb is the seat adjustment handle on the passenger side. It sticks out at an angle, so everyone who sits there damn near breaks it off getting out.

I was behind a Titan yesterday and almost spit coffee all over my dashboard.
I wanted to ask the owner if he downgraded and did a rear-axle swap to a Dana 35 or if Nissan seriously built the Titan with a toothpick rear axle?
I tried to google it but quickly gave up because traffic lightened up.

edited to add - I would love to know more info if any knowledgeable Nissan folks are in the room. WTF rear axle is in the Titan?

The lack of carplay on the tundra is easily fixed with a new headunit. 8k off on a Titan is a ripoff, I've seen 11-13k off easy. You can save even more buying a 1-2 yr old preowned one. They have the worst resale in the segment by far.

I'll probably catch some shit here but it sounds like an F150 might be a good option. Get the 5.0 .It makes more power and has the same amount of torque.

It gets better gas milage, has way more features and can be had at a reasonable price .

At this point, unless you really need something right now and only buy Toyotas (for some reason) then you should probably wait until they redesign the tundra. It really just isn't worth it at the moment.

Other than finally bringing LED headlights over this year, what has Toyota added to the tundra in the last 10 years? (Their good awful entune doesn't count)

I tested a titan out before buying the tundra, and like you said, some parts were ok. But if I had to actually pay for one, I'd wanna slam my dick in a drawer every time I'd glance at that front end.

Excellent. Because Toyota stands behind their shit rather than telling their customers to fuck off.
Good luck with your Ferd. LOL

Don't argue reliability. That's about the stupidest thing you could do in comparison.
Keep up the Apple argument so you can listen to your Flobots. You were getting somewhere, for those who give two fucks.

That's the only kinda major issue, and non Toyota people wear that one out. All the other shit brands out there, wish they only had one issue. It's a damn truck, who gives a shit if it ain't got a damn kitchen sink in it.

Lol. I loved my tundra. It was a great truck. I also loved my F150. I never had any issues with it either. I'm not anti Toyota at all. I just find it hilarious that some of you can't accept that different people like different things. A little tech wouldn't hurt the tundra. Not everyome listens to am radio.

That 5.0 works a lot harder to make that power. Compression ratio of 12.0 compared to 10.2 for the Tundra. Less stress on the Tundra engine. No replacement for displacement. Mileage is better in the Ferd, but I'll take the 5.7. And the real world numbers aren't that much different - nothing even close to what Ford advertises.

The Tundra isn't a beauty queen, but the F150 hit every damn branch on it's way down out of the ugly tree.

Yawn. Ok. The 5.7 was pretty solid. Sure. But it's archaic and will be gone soon. Then what? You're not going to buy Toyotas anymore?

Is, not was. It's still in production. And for damn good reason.

Who the fuck knows what's in the future.
Everyone back in the day thought the 22RE was the staple and could never be matched with reliability.
Then the 3.0 fucked everything up. BUT - Toyota made that shit right and took care of their customers by honoring the HG issue.
Then the 3.4 came around. Everyone questioned the reliability of another V6 Toyota. Toyota did that shit right. 3.4 is solid as fuck.
Then - same deal with the 4.0. Solid as fuck.
And then the 4.6 V8, solid as fuck.
Then the 5.7, solid as fuck minus Cam tower leak - Toyota was smart enough to take care of their customers.

See where I'm going with this?
