Does anyone know why Toyota will not make a 6-6.5 ft bed for a crewmax?

They seem to keep product lines at a minimum. They probably can't project enough volume to justify extra R&D, as well as parts.

    This.

Also... it would be like 30 ft long. It’d be big AF.

That's a good guess considering the overall length and wheelbase is identical between CM and DC. It would be cool to have a 6.5' bed, but my CM barely fits in most parking spaces as it is!

I've got a DC with the 8ft bed.
I've got a DC with the 8ft bed. It doesn't fit in some parking spots at all. Either the butt hangs out in the aisle or it takes up part of the adjacent spot to the front.

I’d trade mine in for a crewmax with 8’ bed in a heartbeat. All I ask is for a payload of 2000lbs.

Ah yes, I forgot about the looooooong bed. I'm sure Toyota considered putting the CM cab and DC long bed frame together, but that would make a 7' bed and they'd have to manufacture 4 different bed lengths. I personally like the look of the short bed on the CM, and it's so wide that I find I can fit a lot back there with the tailgate up.

I assume this is why they don't make the DC in Platinum trim. I love my Limited DC, but would really like it in Platinum - the grape ventilators alone would be worth it for me.

Not sure why this wouldn't be doable; its not like they are reinventing anything. Guessing their thinking is folks wanting a 6.5 bed is for work, not so much comfort items.

So a crew cab comes with a 5'-6" bed and you are looking for an extra 6"? That would require a longer frame by 6". The Crew and Double Cab share the same frame and the 12" difference in beds is made up in the rear portion of cab. But the caveat is I saw a new Tundra at dealer with a 8'-0" box. Since Toyota doesn't make a regular cab anymore I'm guessing it was a double cab. So that tells me there is already a longer frame in the line-up. I'll ask my son when he comes home for the holiday. One would think whats the big deal....right! Well I am sure this would be another model that the Feds would need crash testing on. That costs millions of $'s. To sell maybe a few thousand examples. Bean counters would say NO.

Well then all one needs to do is the math. Double cab plus 8"-0" box= Crew Max with 7" box. That's the best they could do if enough people showed interest in developing another box. So its not a 6" or 12" want. Its whatever it ends up being. I think you will need a pole barn to park it in or it sits outside its entire life.

DC standard bed and CM are exactly the same length, CM being a 12" larger cab. That means the DC long bed is 18" longer than CM. CM+18" means a 7' bed. Toyota doesn't make a 7'bed, so they would need to manufacture either a 4th bed style or a 3rd frame length.

Doubtful they would do either a 3rd bed or a third frame. They got rid of the regular cab and I haven't heard its coming back any time soon.

Spoke with my son about this and the biggest issue would be the standard mounting points on the frames/cabs/beds. Its not as simple as people think to mix and match. It would be less expensive to make another special frame than a 4th box. But demand doesn't warrant it. Plenty of Custom Shops out there who will build whatever your heart desires in the mean time. As long as you got the money. Most likely option is to simply find way to graft the DC box on the CC frame. That will give the OP the solution I think he was looking for.
