You can certainly change your Squadrons from the fog location to ditch light brackets. We are happy to sell you the standard mounting brackets and hardware if you don't already have it.

    SAE Lighting - Update

Many people have heard information from myself and others at BD regarding SAE approved lighting. We are NOT releasing these until 2019 and can only share very few details until then. Expect more information in the New Year...

    - Squadron Series housing
    - Lights will be sold with or without Vehicle Specific Kits
    - The goal is to have the pair of lights sell for under $300
    - No information at this time on adapting SAE approved lens and optics to older Squadron Series Lights

Thanks for all of the interest. More details including an expected release date will be posted in the New Year :)

Are we talking early 2019, or late 2019? Can you say?

Wondering if I should return the squadron sports I’m 99% certain I’m getting for Christmas and wait on the SAE approved lights. Would be great if there was some sort of lens conversion to keep both as options.

Can't wait to get these installed @SDHQ this week along with some other Black Friday goodies. White Sports Driving Combo in the fog location and Yellow Pros on A-Pillar Mounts. Really looking forward to seeing what's ahead out in the boonies!

What are the differences in the upcoming SAE lights and something like the existing Squadron Sport series?

    Can't wait to see them.

The main difference is the new light will have an SAE approved beam. An SAE approved beam will be street-friendly and in many cases can be run with oncoming traffic. Right now our lights are too bright for most street use.

Is it just the beam, or is there going to be a difference in Lumens between the current Sport series and the DOT compliant version?
Just trying to decide whether to pull the trigger now on the Sports, or wait for the DOT version.
Will you still offer the current version when the DOT compliant version is available.
Thanks again for all the info you provide.

@Baja Designs I just got my fog light kit in today with the wide cornering amber. The lights look awesome in the box. Only problem is that the hardware that came with them to bolt the brackets to the lights don't want to go into the receptacle in the lights. Anybody else have this problem?

I can't say at this time - no word on the lumen counts and circuit change between models. We will be offering our current models, just adding the SAE option to our lineup.

Are you having issues with the hardware NOT threading into the light housing? Everything should assemble just fine but its possible we had a hardware mixup. Please contact us Monday and we'll get it handled :)

Yes that’s what I’m talking about. The short bolts won’t thread into the lights. Now one of the first threads may be stripped(on the drivers side light). I tried all four bolts into the light by hand and it wouldn’t go. Thought I had 1 so I started to use a nut driver by hand and it made it a 1/4 turn before stopping.

Has anybody run into issues with the law while running Squadron Sports? I drive some dark country roads with tons of deer pretty often and would love to have the extra light(as opposed to waiting for the DOT approved version), and just turn them off when there's oncoming traffic.

I haven’t run into any trouble, but I’m positive I would get pulled over running them around others at night. I’ve run these during the day and had people tell me how bright they are. At night they’re very obnoxious.

With that said, on back roads at night use your best discretion and you should be fine.

No issues since we keep them off with other traffic. This is the safest bet for avoiding issues with the law. I've accidentally lit state patrol up on a few occasions when they've been hiding out running radar. It's only for a quick second before realizing they are there and turning off the lights. Never had a problem as long as the lights get shut off

Thanks guys!!! I took care of this issue though Saturday morning. Included with the lights were 1/4”x20 hex head bolts. The lights actually ended up taking M6x1.0. I got new SS pan held style screws for about $3 at HD. The hex head ones also wouldn’t clear the mounting brackets. The head is to big. I guess you could bend the brackets but I didn’t want to do that.

It was a bit annoying but in the end I’m so glad to have those lights in. They look amazing!!!!

I have pictures of the hardware issue as well as some final output pictures at night.

I was positive you guys would take care of the issue but I didn’t want to wait.

Can’t wait to get the wife a 4Runner to put her new set of Squadron Sports on the A pillars. That set I think should be shipping this week from you guys.

I had a feeling someone accidentally sent 1/4-20 hardware instead of M6x1.0 - sorry :(

We appreciate you letting us know about the issue and keeping us in the loop. Glad you're enjoying the lights, post a pic or two if you can

Yeah. Stock housings. They are the newest version. The Micro Evolution’s. They are supposed to be good for the reflector housings or anything you put them in. I’m really happy with them also. They have a definite change between low and hi beam as well even though according to spec they have the same light output in each mode. My last headlights didn’t and in the rain and fog you could see how the beam pattern went off into the tree tops. I waited over two years for one to go out so I could replace them and my fog lights.
I almost got the Pro’s( for my fog lights) from one of your pictures from a while ago in the BD thread. But I decided that might be a bit much and stuck with the sports. Super happy with them!

How are these lights supported? Does the bezel support the weight or is there a mount that goes to the frame?

Great! Let us know what you think

There is a mount that goes from the factory bumper to the squadron housing. It attaches directly to the OEM fog light location
