Is it just me or are Tundras Jittery in their ride. You go over a small bump or crevice and you feel the rattle like for 2 seconds. I am considering getting some Michelin LTX's on the truck maybe it will help. Maybe its a shock dampening thing, any recommendations?

    Thanks,

Swapped my front shocks to 5100s on the middle setting and it helped a bit. Swapping from 20s to 18s also helped.

Aside from suspension upgrades, playing with tire pressure can also help.

I'm guessing it depends on the tire and your load. Usually, the lower the psi, the softer the ride. But too low can be risky, especially if carrying a load or towing.

When traveling with no load, 30 to 32 psi has less of harsh ride for me at least, but I like to keep mine around 36 to 38 for the most part.

I got 30psi front and 33 psi back. Ride is way to jittery, i mean bone shaking. I might do as a poster said, try front new adjustable shocks.

Tire pressure has a big effect, but rear shackle has some to do with it

I had Cooper ST Maxx 295 70 18s installed at America's Tires on Black Friday. They had them inflated to 40 psi on all four. The same day, took the truck to Toyota for the airbag recall software update and a few weeks later to replace a faulty battery, and they didn't change the pressure at all. I called Cooper and gave the guy I spoke with the GWV weight, original psi recommendations, and current psi. He calculated that 35 up front and 37 in the rear was what he recommend.

You went with tires that kept the same overall diameter as the 20's were running?
I assume the better ride would be from more air between rim and road?

As I recall the first set were 265/60r20 and the replacements are 275/65r18s.

Yeah you got it; just more air. Made a pretty noticeable difference.

The black ones are actually smoother/softer.. the stock trd 4600 which are same as the 5100s which are more jittery bc they are stiffer.. eat up bigger bumps better then the black ones.

Depends on the roads.. sectioned concrete highways will rattle your brains out. Its a half ton pick up so nothing will make it feel like a camry or much less a 4runner. Weight in the bed will smoothen things out but not make it creamy smooth.

I have asked around and its not just the Shocks. Springs make a big difference and so do the over leafs. Apparently if you take the latter out completely the jitter goes away. Wow, you are talking about 3 changes to the Toyota Tundra just to get a decent ride. 1) Adjustable Shocks 2) springs 3) Over leafs. And if you do all 3, your ability to carry massive loads of weight are gone, but i really don't care.

I don't care what anyone says the Toyota Tundra has the worst ride of all Pick-up trucks, this truck rattles your spine. For the money you pay for these thing it should not be the case. You go over a sewer and you think the truck was hit by a explosive mine.

Guess my truck must be set up much differently... I think it rides great and get compliments on the ride quality from my fly fishing buddies that drive an 2014 F-150, 2015 GMC 1500, and 2016 taco.

My 1st gen ‘03 Tacoma rode surprisingly harsh for its much smaller size and lighter weight than our 2nd/3rd gen Tundras. But I look at it more in the sense that our Tundras are ladder framed vehicles designed to haul and tow much heavier weight compared to regular passenger vehicles.

Certain road surfaces cause the jittery feeling with my 2010 work truck model. My 2004 Ford F150xlt felt the same if not a little worse. Maybe it’s the leaf spring suspension?

Whatever it is........it’s a truck! If you want it to ride like a car, get a car (or a Chevy)!

I think my '16 SR5 rides great? I've driven a Co-workers '15 Lariat and I didn't think it rode any better than my truck.

    I've had an '11 Platinum with 20's and a now a '16 SR5 with 18's.

IMO the ingredients to the smoothest riding Tundra are: 18's over 20's, street tires over A/T. I've also heard the TRD suspension rides stiffer over the standard. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Yes i have heard the same, TRD rides even more stiffer because its built for battle on the off roads. Generally i am hearing the same thing, Tundras are built for massive loads not to be Escalades. Still need to find adjustable shocks or something to have the option for both smooth ride and normal truck usauge.

Mine with 3/1 lift and 295/70/18 rides like a Cadillac. Occasionally I’ll get a little bouncy on the freeway but it’s nothing like my stock 07 CM used to be. I’ve been really impressed with the ride, especially considering the lift and bigger tires.
