Hi everyone. Am planning on making a 2 week trip in january. As title says yes we will be coming from NYC. My future trip was always to do white rim in utah. I have made a thread before on expeditionportal.com asking for advice for that trip but i never did the trip for reasons that came up. I would like to do it in january but i am reading that it might be closed do to snow and ice. Now some info on my vehicle its a 2007 toyota tundra 4wd leveled with fox 2.5 suspension with Stock tires. I am in the process of building the hidden winch on the truck. I have extra baja designs lights as well. I have a shovel and a pair of tred pros. We will be vehicle camping Can i still do the white rim trail? Is their another place similiar to WRT to enjoy the scenery ? I have also in mind doing the Mojave road just trying to see if i find a downloadable route to put in my gaia gps. I also though about stopping by Colorado but one of the trail is closed i think its called imogene pass. My plan was to spend a day there. But that might be out the window. I have done pioneer town in August with a rented jeep. Is their another area in Utah that has something like WRT. i also have the Utah trail book so if you guys give me some advice i should be able to look it up in the book as well. Am trying to make to trip epic. My soon to be wife will be giving birth to our baby in june. So long hikes is not recommended so what i want is to use the truck to get to places maybe a short hike is fine. And january she wont have any classes to attend until the end of the month. Thanks again. Hopefully this all makes sense if not ask away with questions.

I also made a thread asking for advice on my trip we been approved for our vacation.

I can send you a gpx file of Mojave Rd. to upload to Gaia. Haven't done WRT so can't comment on that, but can give you routes to some other trails depending on your destination.

Sure that would be helpful to me. We might spend 1 day in utah then shoot right over to mojave road since its pretty far from utah.

There’s a book I got from Amazon that has about 50 trails in it in Utah. There’s also a CO one too. I can send the name later, not at home now. I remember it had several around Moab. I live in NY too but plan on taking a long trip back out west to do more trails.

Plan more time on the trails that you expect. I always ran out of time.

I haven't had a chance to do the White Rim Trail yet, but from what little research I have done so far camping is only allowed in designated camp sites that fill up very quickly so reserve a spot as soon as possible. Everything in Colorado will be snowed in as previously mentioned. A couple years back we did Chicken Corners in Moab in April and that was a beautiful drive. There are some caves to explore as you get close to Chicken Corners.

Be prepared for the cold out in the desert. It'll likely get below freezing at night.

If it were just you I’d say just suck it up and freeze your balls off :D but I would think the pregnant wife would appreciate some heat. I’m sure any type of small heater will be fine with some good sleeping bags and blankets.

I have a Buddy heater and it is not good at higher elevations. At 8,000 feet it puts off a strange smell and pulses because of lower oxygen levels. I would not buy it again for Colorado use.

Got back from the trip last week on tuesday what a long drive lol. That buddy heater didnt plan out the way i wanted sleeping in the back of the truck. It gave off a really bad smell that we couldnt handle. So we ended up putting the air mattress inside the cab and ised the trucks heat to warm up every couple pf hours. Ill update later with pictures as promised.

Heres some pictures. I am not so good at writing a trip report. Allthe english teacher if theirs any on this forum i could care less the way i write these bothers your eyes. Lol their was so much experience on this trip. Some of the roads in mojave were horrible vibrated the hell out of the truck. I was wondering why they would cut the road like that. Watson wash was a pretty scarey moment for me lol and having the wife kinda guide me. The water crossing took me by surpised how deep it was holly cow was it deep it was above the tundra letters on the door :eek2:. Good thing the tundra nice amd tall and i read up on how to water cross in a vehicle. Once we crossed it and i turn of the truck and checked the air filter to make sure everything was dry . The baja design xl80 i put on the ditch mount were really bright but i angled it to low so i couldnt readjust it because i ended up putting silcone on the bolts o well. When i turn off my low beams and left the xl80 on it made a difference in lighting. Seems like the xl80 filled in the hid light output. Anyways here some pictures for now.

Yes it was lol. I always read. If you dont see the water moving then it will be fine to cross with a tall enough vehicle. But once we crossed it it was so much laugher with my wife and me and i had to pee afterwards lol.

What if you dont see the deep spot that will swallow your truck?
