I open and cc but I do open carry a lot. I guess I buy into a right un-exercised is a right that can be easily lost. The only trouble I've had with open carry is having to deal with LEOs that don't know the law, lol. I'm 6'5" with an athletic build so most people probably assume I'm a LEO so they don't freak out and call the police. I always cc when I'm in a establishment that doesn't allow firearms though. Like movie theaters or bars because I'm not going to put my life in their hands and disarm.

PA here. Open and CC are legal. I think concealed permitted, open permit-less but I'm not 100% positive. I'm always concealed. I see occasional open carry in the boondocks. I am in a suburb near Philly so I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen it near me.

It doesn't make much sense to me unless you don't want to be bothered with a permit. I always felt like it marks me as the first guy to take out for anybody who wants to do anything. A room or store or area full of people open carrying is a deterrent. One guy open carrying in a crowd full of people who are un-armed or concealed carrying has a target on his back. Comes with a higher burden to maintain constant 360 degree awareness. I just want to go into frickin Home Depot, buy my drill bit and walk out without getting all the weird looks and constantly keeping my head on a swivel for anybody getting too close to my hip.

Have you seen the Qualify with weapon part? haha I was scared to stand around while some of the students qualified. One guy turned and pointed his gut at the whole class. I was like WTF and we allow these people to carry. They class was more worried about the law than anything else - only problem the laws change all the time. Should require more shooting time and safety training- which both were minimal.

Ugh.. I avoid public ranges for this reason. I haven't seen the qualify portion in person (I live in a no-qualify state, our CCW classes are heavily about the law) but I imagine they can be pretty scary.

For an enumerated right? Suppose we should require an education and government training before people can/should be allowed to vote?

I have a concealed carry permit, and Arizona does have an open carry law. In the metro areas, I see no need to give sheeple heart attacks, so I do not. However, in the rural towns and ranch and hunting areas, I always open carry and people don't even give it a second look.

For rallies, events, ect.. I dont see anything wrong with it. But those that choose to open carry durring their normal day, going to stores or restaurants...

It seems like they are taunting it and almost anticipating a conflict. To which the kinda are the conflict now because everyone there is on edge because someone at baskin Robbins is carrying and has it on display.

I doubt anyone has ever felt like they were in a hostile environment at an ice cream shop until the day a person sat next to you with an ice cream cone and a .45.

When it comes to exercising enumerated US constitutional rights, you sound like a mid-century Alabama bus driver. Exercising civil rights is rarely civil to EVERYONE. Having said that I personally don't OC..;-)>

Uhm.... I get that you might not like my opinion on the subject, but im not saying to remove the open carry law. I am saying that it seems a lot of the people who are exercising that right are doing it for the attention they get.

You dont care for my opinion, i respect and understand that. I will also end my responce to you without calling you a "racist" as you just did in your comment to me. Which doesnt even relate to how i view or represented my opinion.

    Respectfully;
    Twinky.

I don't really understand the people who open carry are showing off mentality either but hey it's starts a dialogue. We wont know when we need it but when we need it I hope we have it either concealed or open. Good guys and gals with guns we need more of them.

I wasn't meaning that everyone who does open carry is doing it for attention. Take the members here who stated they do open carry. Im pretty sure just about all of them also said there are times/places that they prefer to conceal instead. They had different reasons but most it had to do with them feeling it wasnt necessary or they didnt want the attention that you get from those who may be uncomfortable by it or those who might have bad intentions.

Im a Texan. I like guns. I also like to feel that the people who are carring them arent fueling the campaign against the second amendment.

I feel this thread is a good example of responsible gun owners. But they're not the ones who are being used as a good example when it comes to what the public sees. The public sees those who exercise this "enumerated" (<-- for keeping with the theme of emphasising terms that aren't actually necessary) right when in actuality is only making the ones who are uncomfortable with the law now voice their opinion against it.

There are pleanty of things that legally we are alowed to do, but we choose not to as a courtesy to others around us.

I support open carry. I also think we all know there are times that keeping it concealed more appropriate.

My point wasn't to call or infer you as a "racist" and I apologize if you felt that I was, but rather to point out that "people who are exercising that right are doing it for the attention they get" is the same as saying folks who didn't stay at the back of the bus are just "people who are exercising that right are doing it for the attention they get". We, as a society, won't get comfortable with folks exercising their enumerated (<---as in not made up or based on a SCotUS interpretation of what is) a right, until it once again becomes the norm. Nothing more and nothing less.

Just a differing opinion from a fellow Texan!

I was in Pittsburgh this weekend for a bodybuilding show and I went to eat breakfast at a place in the heart of the city called Pamelas Diner. I was sitting there eating and I noticed one of the employees was open carrying. He had a long shirt on that would have easily covered the gun and concealed it without it printing but he had tucked the shirt inside the belt so the gun was easy to see. While I was there 6 Pittsburgh Police officers came through the door for their morning breakfast also. I don't know if Pennsylvania is OC or not or if maybe he was the business owner just open carrying inside his business. I didn't ask him anything about it just enjoyed a great breakfast and rolled out but it made me think for a second.

IMHO - A right unexercised is a Right lost.
    I live in PA.
I OC when I feel. Like more during the summer, on my MC, or wherever. My LTCF covers me when on the MC.

There wasn't an option for OC / CC depending...so I chose the all the time option.

I carry based on how I feel is the most comfortable for me. Sometimes it is in a "fanny" pack, sometimes under my untucked shirt or my "shoot me first" fishing vest, or on my hip without any covering at all.

My right, my choice, my decision.

PA allows for OC while on foot. there are other allowances for place of business...etc. this response was not meant to be all inclusive.

Here in Kentucky I open carry, never had any issues with it. People see me with my gun and don't bat an eye. Son does it too, again no big deal. As for shoot me first, I haven't seen any data where that has happened. Also when the police see me open carry in a store or restaurant I usually get a smile and a nod, they seem appreciate that we are here helping them protect the innocent. It come down to what YOU feel comfortable doing, don't worry if you offend someone. I mean were are in America get used to guns they are all around you..

I don't carry at all and I am an excellent shot with a handgun and a rifle.
    1. I've always been confident and good with my hands so I never really felt the need
    2. I don't put my self in situations to need to carry
    3. I don't want to be a target
    4. I don't want the guilt of having anyones blood on my hands

Nope ... never unless I have too in an "official capacity". When i'm out and about doing my day to day normal life stuff it's no ones business what is tucked in my pants. While technically open carry is indeed legal here in the Commonwealth for anyone with an unrestricted Class A LTC (and we even have actual case law!) it is highly frowned upon unless there is a badge clipped near that gun. Having a sidearm out in the open is never a great idea if you can avoid it ... especially if you haven't been trained on how to retain it.

I don't open carry. I also don't dress "tacticool" or cover my truck with "they can have my gun when the pry it from my cold dead fingers" bumper stickers. I may or may not carry at all..
