We have a dog. When we go on trips she's in a kennel in the back of the CrewMax. Sometimes we'd like to leave the truck running with the AC on, but lock the doors from the outside.

I've tried this with just the key in the ignition and using the fob from the outside. I've also tried this with the key in the ignition and using the door lock button on the door.

Is there anyway to have the truck running and lock it from the outside?

    Thanks

    Welcome.

    Use another key.

So one in the ignition and lock the door with the other key.

Idling a vehicle for long periods of time is not a good idea, FYI. I won't even get into the theft side of this issue. Most states you can get a fine for leaving a vehicle running while not being at the vehicle.

Some remote start systems also would work for you.

My remote start does this. I do the same thing whenever I have my dog with me & I need to run in to a store quickly. A remote start will also help you pre-cool your truck prior to getting in it; I tend to do this...when I remember to!

Thanks, one key in the ignition and locking the door with the other key worked.

We're not talking about idling for long periods of time, no more than 5 or 10 minutes. Most states you can get a fine for leaving a pet in a vehicle in the summer without the AC running.

    Oh then that works perfect.

Thanks for thinking about your four legged family member. So many people do not and it just pisses me off.

I use that trick, but yes just for short trips and sitting in the shade.

And you don't have to get a copy of a chipped key either. Just one with the same pattern works.

To get super OCD I knew a guy with a race RSX-S and he would always crank his engine over with a non-chipped blank until his oil light went out, that way he knew he had oil pressure. Then he would switch and start it with the original key.

Not sure it helps but he liked the idea.

I think that this person has a flawed logic. As soon as he stops cranking, the oil pressure is null. If there were a way to run the oil pump without cranking the engine, then he may've been onto something.

    Don't know...

The engine turned over but wouldn't fire...

Seems it took 7-8 seconds for the oil light to turn off. Then it was "off to the races" lol.
