Dead Rav4?

Hi all. Got a 2013 rav4 that wont start. It was starting up and driving just fine, gave it to a body shop and I have no idea what they did. When I went to check it out i tried starting and all it does is just crank crank crank. Theres no lights at all on the dashboard. Checked the fuse box saw that the alternator 120A fuse looked blown. Bought another one from advance auto and replaced it but still nothing.

 

All other fuses are perfect. Body work

 

If it happened at the body shop, they need to figure this one out.

Yeah they can have it towed to the dealer for you. They ground something out to cause the alternator fuse to blow.

 

This ^^^. Or they didn't reconnect something. Get your head under the hood. Under the Rav. Flashlight. And look really really really close at at wires, hoses and connections. Make sure everything is connected. Nothing bobbing around flopping in the breeze.

 

make them fix...as soon as you start mucking with it they will say you did it...

 

Actually they said the car came like that. The negative terminal has a weird box type of thing on it and it has a cable going to the fuse box, could that terminal box be damaged?

 

But it was fine when you dropped it off right? Maybe it has something to do with the security. Try another key. I’m assuming it’s a chipped key.

 

... and you're sure it's not the battery?

 

Tried jumping the car just cranks and cranks amd cranks. No lights on the dash only thing that turns on is the map lights, clock and ac.

 

Sometimes a battery is so dead that no jumpstart will work. The fact that it cranks and accessories work sounds like a pretty good chance of battery degradation to me

 

I guess I'll give that a go

 

I wonder if anyone knows. Do Toyotas put fusible links in the wiring? Maybe hidden in the leads to the battery? I know my uncle‘s Ford Explorer has one hit in the wiring. You cannot replace it without cutting the harness. Stupid

 

What kind of body work ? And just so I have this right you drove it in the fixed it you drove it out of there and then this issue happened ? Did the do any welding ?

 

He said the dashboard doesn’t light up other than the map lights. Either a fuse or something fried somehow. The fact that the alternator fuse blew has me concerned. I wonder if they tried to jump it and hooked it up backwards. Could’ve fried the ECM even.

 

Negative terminal goes to a ground and positive to the fuse boxe. Is your battery installed correctly?

 

The car was towed there it needed the doors replaced. This picture is off Google but you can see theres a block type of thing on the negative terminal this also had a connection that was running to the fuse box

 

I was going to give the ecu to a company that repairs them to check it out because I have no idea how to

 

Found the part I was talking about. It's No 6 it's called a battery current sensor

Years ago my wife's escort had a fuel shutoff switch for accidents. I slammed the door hard enough one time to trip the switch. It cut off the fuel pump. Would crank and crank but no fuel or spark.
