Just wondering if anybody with a Bakflip Revolver X4 has had the issue that I'm having with mine and if you have any suggestions to fix it? Bottom line, I can't get the seals to sit flush with the side rails. Yes, I've used a heat gun and left it out in the sun for a couple of weeks now. It seems like the cover sits too low in the rails which flares the seals up too high on the rails for them to be able to sit flush. I've had a X2 before and all it took was a heat gun/sun to get the seals to sit flush, but not with this X4. I've also received a second X4 under warranty, but I'm having the same exact issue. I'm pretty confident that I installed everything correctly and have reviewed the instructions to see if I've missed anything. I have a 2018 CM with bed rails (5'6" bed) for reference.

I just installed mine yesterday. the rail sits flush to the bed rails and precisely close-ish with the tailgate.
Im assuming you've checked the alignment of the cover? you've checked the X4 rails are level?
there are alignment shims mentioned in the instructions for down the rails to assist in leveling them, which would effect the cover. My rails just had a single ribbed strip of rubber down the x4 rail so I didnt do anything other than mount them. The instructions say these alignment shims come pre-installed and that you remove the ones per your application.

Edit: on second look, the x4 rails look pretty good, its the cover thats not sitting in the rail groove. are you 100% sure its aligned right?

When I did mine this weekend, I never had any shims to level. It says "Specific Vehicles" so I am assuming that if they didn't give them to you then your/our trucks don't require them.

I may be wrong. I am no expert.

yes and it shows shims on the diagram... maybe its for the X2, i ended up just disregarding as none came preinstalled.

I feel like the only thing that could cause the OPs X4 to be sitting so high is the locking tabs down the side are riding on the rail, there should be 1/8" gap between them and the rail channel where it locks.

I have the X4 installed and it sits flush with no issues. I can post pics if you would like.

Can you do that please. I would like to compare it to mine.

    Thank you.

Mine sits flush and still leaks really bad. Needless to say, I'm not happy with this cover at all.

After installing mine I can see how bad this is going to leak too. Not too big a deal but coming from a dry, crappy, cheap vinyl roll up cover....

It's definitely aligned right, and everything is sitting correctly/evenly in the rails and it has no problems locking. The shims were my first thought, but there aren't shims on the rails with the track system, just a rubber strip. I'm going to call the company I bought it from and see if they have any suggestions, otherwise, I'll be returning it. I'll pass on what I find out.

please keep us posted. Here is how mine looks. On the tailgate, the vertical gap between the tailgate and inside seal is about 3/16" and 1/8" on the metal T rail. This thing is gonna leak like crazy but i knew that going in. You can see how much further back the old vinyl cover went onto the tailgate by the dirt line. the X4 only overlaps by maybe an 1/8th.

Well now I feel like I might just be OCD. To me it looks like your seals aren't laying completely flat either. I had the glossy version (X2 Revolver) on my last truck and maybe it just sat down better because it had that smooth surface to stick to instead of the rough surface that the X4 has. I just sent pics to the seller, so I'll see what they think.

I agree, after i went out and looked closely, they actually look very similar.
They made this nice cover, and its like no thought went into finishing at the tailgate. There needs to be closer tolerances, additional seals and or end caps...

I've had my X4 for about 9 months and have had no issues with the rubber gaskets curling up our not sitting flat. The cover overlaps the tailgate by about 1/2" (I'll check later to make sure) but you can adjust that when installing by making sure it's not too far forward where it meets the cab. The rubber gasket with sticky tape should only be used at the front of the bed near the cab. I didn't use any shims and I don't remember any coming with the cover. I get very minor water leaks.

Thanks Mike, Im gonna unbolt the cover and slide it back some...

overall i like the design, im sure later revisions will clean things up at the tailgate. The installation is easy, they did a nice job making all the hardware work together and align on the rails. It looks clean, its quieter than the vinyl cover drumming as it flapped away. I like the finish they Bak uses on the x4, time will tell how it holds up to everyday exposure.

@B737 your looks flush to me. I think mine is flush just like yours.

They did and Bakflip sent new seals, but still no luck. I’m in the process of trying to return it right now.

Just following up for anybody interested. I asked for a refund and Bakflip just said to field destroy it and send pics for a full refund, so at least they back up their products. Not sure why the seals wouldn't sit, but in the end, I'll be trying a different style of cover. Maybe a sit on top cover like diamondback. Biggest takeaway for me is that Bakflip has great customer service and will back up their warranty/products. I've had their covers before, this one just didn't work out unfortunately.

If your truck is lifted, I wonder if the Tundra lean could cause the bed to not be level and make the cover not sit properly.

No lift, still factory. I tried to move the brackets up/down/middle and it didn't make a difference either, the rail/cover move together with the brackets. It just seems like a design flaw to me because the cover sat too low in the rails, forcing the seals to flex up. Tried two covers, replaced the seals, used sun/heat gun...nothing worked. The first gen bakflip revolver on my last truck had no issues like this and looked great for years.

Sux man. My cover took quiet a bit of adjusting and still isn't right but I just live with it. Good luck.

I commend them for making the situation right. It seems like the X4 needs more refinement. After seeing the photos in another thread of one cracking at the seams, I dont have a lot of confidence this cover will outlast the cheap vinyl one I replaced with it. It is shocking they are getting a grand for these things...
