Thanks, hope I don't have to try it again but will keep this in mind.

Cruising in the rain, had a 9 hour drive, every inch of it was in the rain, I'm using the cruise.

I had a 2001 and now a 17. Never had any of these features to use. I pull a trailer every day for my business so I'm very alert when I'm on the road

I know you weren't talking to me, but I think a lot of people probably don't use them. I personally am not a fan of cruise control under any circumstances really.

I only bought my Tundra in July, but I have yet to use cruise in it once. Not sure that I ever used it in my last truck either. I do remember using it a couple times in my 2007 Tacoma, but I was really just trying it out.

Update - while I'm still a fan of these features in general (nerd in me) I'm finding out the hard way they can bring a whole new level of butt pains in other ways. 2500 miles on my truck and it's currently at the dealer for the third time with PCS issues. Won't bore you with the details as there are plenty of threads on the forum detailing the pains.

To me, all this new fancy tech is one more thing to go wrong and gives the mfg a reason to jack up the price...but its the way things are going so we don't really have a choice. I just plan on holding onto my 2010 until the redesign and most of the bugs are worked out.

I like most of the safety features. Getting up there in years (62), my reaction time isn't as good as you younger bucks.

Used the cruise control extensively for the first time this weekend. I learned to set the speed a little higher than what the traffic is going so that it can adapt the speed as needed.

Lane departure warning is a PITA on local multi-lane roads because you need to swerve a bit to avoid the cell phone people, etc that aren't paying attention to where they're going. I use it on highways though.

I turned the auto high beams off because side streets are dark in my area with street lights every few hundred feet. The constant flicking on and off of the high beams are annoying in these areas. I do use it in rural more rural areas.

Collision avoidance warning occasionally goes off for no reason, but not often enough to bother me.

The auto high beams feature is one that I would like if it was done well, but I don't find it to be reliable enough.

Even on dark, rural roads, I find it has a tendency to high beam oncoming traffic way too much. I get high beams in return pretty often. Sometimes it's in a situation where it's hard to imagine it could get it wrong if it's ever capable of getting it right. The flickering up and down is annoying too.

I know it's different tech, but I always have to remark how they think we're ready for self-driving cars but my truck can't even keep from high-beaming people on a semi regular basis. o_O

I also can't imagine what the engineers were thinking when they made the threshold for high beams at 21 mph. If no one is coming, I want my high beams on if I'm going 2 mph, let alone 20. If I need low for driving purposes, I'll turn on low.

On the plus side, so far this is my only real complaint about the truck.

I like it. I have always liked cruise control because it prevents me from unintentional speeding, so an improved cruise control is a good thing for me. I also like the lane warning. I wish more people would use this since I too often see drivers going off onto the shoulder of the road on a right hand curve and that makes it unsafe for pedestrians. The fact is that many drivers are not really into driving, but simply need the transportation. They do not pay attention to driving and are often distracted by their phone or some other device. Anything that helps keep them, and the rest of us, safer is a good thing.

I came to the Tundra from a 97 Chevy. It looks like a midsize pickup compared to the Tundra. I used the lane departure alerts to learn where the truck was in the lane.

I like most of the features. Don’t use the lane departure warning because it’s just plain annoying. Only complaint with the auto high beams is they don’t function under 20 mph or so. I basically live in the woods on a narrow private road so coming home in the dark the high beams don’t stay on going slow so you have to turn the auto feature off to get the high beams on

NO LONGER HAVE A TUNDRA... Waiting
I love mine.. why not! Adaptive cruise control is awesome, the rear radar cross traffic thing is nice esp in parking lots, the lane assist is kinda annoying but that can be turned off (although I think it's nice to have when you're playing with the clunky stereo). The front radar is nice if you are going into tight spots although not required and can be turned off.

Most new vehicles now will come with some type of added safety mechanism, whether software or hardware.. You could always buy an older truck with nothing in it.

Our 2019 Subaru Ascent has even more safety stuff and it's better! Toyota isn't really up to the same level as Subaru.. At least their safety stuff will stop the car for you if you're about to hit something. I don't think the Tundra has that option or at least my trim level doesn't. Instead it beeps loudly and shows a big fat "BRAKE".. helps a little but doesn't help avoid collisions.

I was a snowflake driver today, 8.5 hours on interstate from Memphis to upstate SC. Cruise set, LDS set, firing off emails and text, Audio book, google maps, handing phone calls and eating lunch while riding by Talladega screamin' Shake and Bake Baby.

    I like the safety stuff.

I like (ish) the features that Toyota put in the 18+ trucks. That being said, it isn't perfect. I like the automatic high beams, but they are clunky... I sometimes have to turn them off manually which isn't a big deal. This happens mostly on twisty forest two lane roads. I never use the lane departure, because to be honest, my music is usually louder then the beep that it emits. When the odd time it is on, its mostly a reminder to use my turn signals. I REALLY LIKE the radar cruise, as long as I remember to set it to one car length. Otherwise your'e always slowing down when it isn't needed.
I recently drove in a snow storm where I got the sensor error from snow building up on the emblem. So naturally adaptive cruise stopped working and the collision system turned off. I didn't get bent out of shape because i'm sure it stops working under certain conditions for a reason and I don't rely on it to prevent me from getting in an accident anyways. Downside is when it happened I couldn't use cruise. This represents only a FRACTION of total driving time.

Overall I like the features... they're clunky.. but it doesn't give me buyers remorse.
*I haven't had the truck brake suddenly or brake warnings occur.

I love the smart cruise control on my 19 when in traffic. I set it to 65mph and I never have to touch the brakes. It slows down and speeds up. Makes traffic driving for me so much less stressful.

Agree totally, it took me a while to figure out what was going on with the adaptive cruise but once I did find it, it is the greatest thing since the 8 track.

Update: I recently turned the crash detection down to lowest sensitivity and yet it still falsely alarms. Only once, but still... with nothing out front at 5 AM. It seems in sub freezing temperatures it is just going to be unreliable. I still LOVE the truck but that’s a bit annoying.
