I just got the truck gimme a minute Ok who’s got something for sale?
I’m no stranger to the forums, just a stranger to everyone here on the Tundra Forums, so I know this is a good place for advice, taken with a grain of salt ;)

I’m looking to buy a tundra, and so far I have 2 local I’m looking at, however I am willing to travel if someone is looking to sell, so let me know if so, otherwise give me your opinions on these 2 options if you will and tell me what to look out for if you can!!

    2011
    95k miles
    4x4 TRD off road
    5.7L

    2013
    61k miles
    4x2 Base
    4.6L

Both are double cab and are in similar condition and priced the same ($18k)... like most I don’t need a 4x4, but yes I’ll go off roading more if I do.

    Are they priced right/good/bad
    What’s your opinions on each
And what do you think is a better truck and or deal

Anything helps, let me know what you think!

Without question the 2011. You won't regret it. Better engine, better drivetrain. Neither engine is broken in yet, but the price seems like it should leave a little room for negotiation.

So Ive test driven them both, sans beast mode (I just learned about it after the test drive)
They both have similar response time and power albeit slight difference

Yes I was in the wonder years, and my name is Kevin Arnold, hahahahaha very few people remember that show unless your a late 70’s-mid 80’s baby

The 2011 exterior isn’t as nice as the 2013, interior pretty similar, but a 4x4 seems worth it even tho it’s got 30k more miles and is a couple years older

I’ll be looking up the vin tomorrow, I hail from Michigan but I live in Atlanta now and I know I’d rather not have a northern truck

Mileage is nothing for Toyotas, don't let that be a deciding factor. 2011 5.7 by a long shot, you'll regret choosing the 4x2 4.6. One day you might want to take it offroad, or on the beach.

The 4.6L drivetrain can only pull 6500#. Con.
    I got a 2010 4.6L (GX460) the air pump goes at 100k.

More creature comforts, and shift on the fly 4x4 w/ 14-19mpg...PRO

    2011 wins!!!

I was about to be the proud owner of the 2011 today until I found out it has been in NC/Tenesee most it’s life to include a few accidents... however I agree I’d rather have the 4x4 5.7L... now to find one that’s not getting rusted through!

But do to an investment I’m about to make I’m looking for something cheaper for now, and have to hold off on 18k+ Tundra (unless an amazing deal comes along)... anyone have something around 10k or less (preferably 8k)

There are many for sale for under 10K, but they'll have average mileage, (200K) which is perfectly fine, as it is a Toyota. I can't reiterate enough times how it's nothing for these trucks given that they were taken care of.

I bought mine with 175K miles on it for $7000, no leaks, runs like new.

Just a couple things to consider, the water pump will leak, $1000 fix at the dealer, or be like me and spend $93 on an OEM part and spend 3 hours doing it yourself. Air injection system will go bad, bypass it, tons of info out there. If purchased from rust belt states, (NC all the way up to maine) likely your brake calipers will have a couple pistons seized and have to be replaced.

That would be good at $16k, or even better with 150k miles at $12k

Go with the 2011 pickup. True it has more miles, but consider that (if taken care of) it will get 300k miles with little issues.
Side note: stay away from the 2012's with a 5.7L Flex fuel. These are notorious for starting problems.
I made the mistake of buying a 2012 and no one can seem to figure out the problem and I'm not the only one with this issue on this model pickup.
    Just my two cents worth.

And not a fan of the 1st gen tundra’s, I’m also 6’1 with a family and feel they’re a little too small for my needs

Are you financing or paying cash? If financing, are the rates the same? Very often I see people paying for a used truck for 5 years , and the interest is so bad in the used ones sometimes, a new Tundra would be the same payments as a 7 year old one, due to lower interest on the loan, but 1 or 2 year longer terms, perhaps. EXPLORE ALL OPTIONS!!! A brand new one may be attainable...if you wanted. The 2011s have a sweet dash layout!

Now your talking! I mean, it's a Toyota. What else is there to say.

Run the vin for service history at Toyota and check the Carfax for severe accidents.

Looks pretty clean. Didn't see mileage anywhere. With the 2008 , the Air Injection Pumps where a major problem. Had to replace in my 08, though Toyota paid for it. There is a cheaper fix for it. At that price I'm thinking 200k + miles. Worth a test drive , and definitely mod that bad boy up.
