    Searched and couldn't find anything.

Is anyone running a shock guard/boot to prevent the lower mount from getting dinged up and the shafts from getting pitted due to rocks/dirt?

Just installed Kings on the rear of my truck and would like to keep them as good as new for as long as possible.

I run boots on mine. Live in the desert so moisture isn’t a problem, but dust could build up and shorten seal life. No brainer for me, fine with rebuilding, rather not replace shafts also.

not a fan of accordion boots... somehow I've always found debris in them when inspecting my shock shafts. I've seen people use a sheet like the one below. Cut it in 4" or 6" strips and mount it like the Falcon ones above. Just use a couple of zip ties. This way you can inspect and clean the shafts regularly. They are rubber, so they won't hurt anything and when they get beat up, a sheet is under $25. There's also different sizes if you need shorter or longer.

Summit racing sells the king shock guard. Didn’t even know they made any.

    OPTPR251050 Is the part number.

Also run Daystar boots on the rear 2.5s. I use a hose clamp at the top instead of a ziptie.

I like GravityGear's idea. Less stuff trapped sounds good.

King Shocks as well as other leading brands do not sell or recommend using boots. Debris and water WILL build up under the boots and damage the shaft. Instead, buy or make some shaft guards. You can use rubber sheet and a hose clamp. The rubber sheet literally just hangs vertically down from the shock body and in front of the shaft. This deflects rocks and sand kicked up from tires. Or you can get shaft guards from the manufacturer.

I’m late in my response, but the downside to boots is they’re meant to be zip tied top and bottom. This traps anything that gets in. Solution, cut the lower end off the boot and only zip tie the top to the shock body. 360° and water and dirt drain out. You can push it up out of the way to clean the shaft.

I put a Fox guard on the driver's side rear shock. A guard wouldn't fit on the passenger side facing forward because of how close the shock is to the axle. The axle shock mount actually shields the shaft pretty well other than the holes in it, so I just put some duct tape with flames to cover the holes...that easily added 10HP.

Oh damn. You can’t add horsepower there. That causes axle twist. :). Actually, Ben at filthy Motorsports advised against the guards. He said a rock can get stuck in there. That makes sense. They look good. He suggested a piece of rubber in front of the shaft zip tied top and bottom.

Crap, I thought I was brilliant putting it there to avoid the losses through the drivetrain. No wonder my springs are showing signs of wear.

Mine has been on for a couple years now, I haven't noticed anything building up in it, but I wouldn't expect gravel to get wedged in there. Gravel roads is the most extreme my truck sees. I'd probably install some boots if I was driving off road or in deep mud.

Why not cut off the bottom end of the accordion boot so that it’s open at the bottom. I’ve never seen it done, but it makes perfect sense to me.
