got a call from my dealership and they asked about the truck and then asked if I was interested in having the truck looked over so they can make an offer to buy back.

Is this just their way to try to make a profit on my used truck and get me to buy a new car? What would be a fair offer for a 2017 pro with 8k miles

They will give you wholesale. it's nothing more than a sales ploy. Throw it in the trash.

Tell them you want 10k over what you paid....minimum.
They want it because they want to put a used Pro on the lot for 10k over what the MSRP was in 2017 for "market adjustment"

I get that email all the time. One day I'll get it when I dont have anything to do, and I'll take it up there just to see them scratch their heads...

Took mine in for the first Oil Change and they offered me 5k more than what I paid, but that was earlier this year when everyone wanted the Pro but not the 2018 one.

only time I ever took the bait was with my 2013 Wrangler Unlimited. This was in 2015 and it had 73k mile on it. They gave me 3K less than what I paid for it and I bought 15 for 5% below invoice and had my own financing so they couldn't screw me on interest rate

Yea I wouldn't seriously entertain it unless you are looking for a newer one. At least every other time I'm waiting on mine to be serviced, the dealer sends someone around to pitch me the sales on their new trucks, which last time was only 0% for 36 months. They wanted to get me in a new one and buy mine back after I told them it had no issues. I told them mine was paid for and I was not interested in buying.

Dealerships have to sell cars in order to hit manufacturer sales goals and incentives. So they're willing to lose money to buy your car or truck to entice you to buy a new one because when it all balances they make money.

I know a guy who was called for buy back on a TRD Pro with the orange paint color. They had a wealthy customer who wanted that color and they paid the guy $15,000 more than his OTD price 1 year earlier. I was pretty amazed.

Dealer I bought my Tacomas from sends me these letters on occasion. One they sent offered $11.6k on my 2009 Tacoma that I ended up trading in for $19k. I sent their letter back addressed to the sales director and told them that they serviced my truck and knew it was worth much more than what they offered in the letter. After several emails I went in and met the sales director face to face. He said those letters are sent by some marketing firm in Iowa. I said well it has your name on it so as far as I am concerned it came from you. I was in need of a 4x4 instead of a prerunner so we worked out a deal over the following 2-3 months. Last one I got from that dealer was BS too. I was in the market for a Tundra when I got this letter offering me a customer loyalty discount. Without telling them I had the letter I worked the best deal I could. They would absolutely not go lower. Then I pulled out the letter and said what about my customer loyalty discount. Their reply was "we are as low as we can go already". I said so this letter is not worth the paper it is printed on. They were doing a dealer trade for the truck I wanted. They let me walk which I did.
