285?? / 1st gen

I have a 1” lift in the front and currently running 265/75 16. I’m wondering if running a spacer would cause any fitment issues. I’m also wondering if I can run 285’s with the spacer and not get rubbing? If anyone has any spacer pictures on 265’s or 285’s posting would be appreciated. Thank you.

 

What 1” lift do you have already installed? Are you talking about wheel spacers or a lift spacer?

@Professional Hand Model is running 285’s with minimal lift from 5100’s.

 

Stock wheels? That matters.

285/75 16 inch rims with 4" backspace (maybe)
3.5" lift up front +/- (lowering it this month)
2" lift in rear

 

I have been on 285/75/r16 for about 12 years. No lift (until the recent Billy 5100 at one notch up from bottom). They have always had slight rub on inside frame at full turn.

Since the front end rebuild with new shocks, lower control arms (OEM), and new cam bolts things are a little different. The front tires are more vertical now due to the newer better alignment and the rub seems to be a slight one on the upper control arm at a hard turn like cutting into a parking spot.

I just make sure to not turn hard. In your case, you have a spacer lift. Might be different.

 

On stock wheels rims. You like my new radar ball on the cap?

 

Sorry I need to clarify. I’m asking about wheel spacers. I have 5100’s on notch #3 (1.1”?). I would like to be more flush with the flares. Do wheel spacers create fitment issues? (Interference with the flare?) Would aftermarket UCA’s allow for 285’s w/no rub? 2006 AC stock wheels.

 

Can I even fit 285 on a 17x7?

 

I think 1.25" is about the smallest spacer that will work, get spidertrax. Not sure about rubbing but pushing the wheels out will cause them to be closer to front and back of wheel wells when turning. Lots of guys run 285's on the stock wheels.

 

I have a 2002 Tundra TRD AC. I have Billy's on all four, with AAL in the rear. I just had some 285/75/16 BFG KO2s installed on stock 5 spoke wheels at 4wheelparts. They had to use G2 1.25" spacers to keep the tires from hitting the upper control arms. It was cheaper than getting new wheels but it cost me $200 bones for the spacers. I had some rubbing on the front fender plastic so I removed the fenders this weekend and no longer have the issue but I have yet to stuff the wheels and see if they hit anywhere else. Here are some picture.

I adjusted the depth of my spacer. I just checked the invoice and it was a G/2 93-83-125T which is a 1.25" wheel spacers not the 1.5" that I had originally said.

 

@WaTrout88 what level are your billies set at? How is the ride quality with them on that set? Thanks

 

I believe I currently have them at the 2nd to last notch. Ride quality is fine, the new BFGs add some stiffness at first but I don't notice after driving it the last couple of weeks. I did notice this weekend when I came into a steep sidewalk apron a little hot, I had some rubbing so I will need to look into my pinch welds soon and get out the surgery tools.

 

I am still running these tires with zero issues, absolutely love them. I have not even rotated them since my last post, haha probably should do that. There is plenty of tread left and no strange wear. I was thinking about swapping some tires with my FJ40. Has anyone ran the 295/17/16 tires. I would like to keep the width less than 12" and over 33" tall. The next tire up in the BFG that I would consider are the the 315s but those might be a little big for my gearing.

 

Hello Everyone - New to the Forum here. Went pretty blindly into some modifications on my 2004 SR5 Tundra 4x4 (embracing my midlife crisis). Learned a lot from this forum, so thanks everyone - but I am still learning!

I recently upgraded suspension with Bilstein 5100s front and rear (highest setting). I found some used Method NV wheels, 17x8.5 (not sure on back spacing). I had to run 1.25 spacers/adapters because the wheels are not compatible with the bolt pattern on the Tundra (ugh - original owner had them on a 4runner with the spacers). Set them up with 285/70/17 Open Range A/T Tires. Getting some rubbing in the back of the wheel well. Will need to do a pinch weld modification to continue running the tires. Had problems initially with balance on the wheels but that is better after re-balancing them. Concerned about continuing with the spacers as I don't want to have an annoying "death wobble" as some call it.

So discussion points for your expert input?

1 - Do the pinch weld mod and run it until the tires are toast. (also want to add bigger fender flares because the tires stick out a lot)
2 - Try some 275s so there is no more rub (might still need pinch weld mod?)
3 - Get smaller tires 265/70/17 keep the methods, keep the spacers
4 - Get different wheels and tires and run without spacers?

If you are rubbing in the back you probably want to add some the ICON add a leafs.

 

The rubbing is in the rear of the front wheel well, both sides. No rubbing issues in the back that I am aware of. I haven't compressed the suspension because of the issues in front.

 

I pulled up the your tire sizing and they are damn near identical to the 285/75/16. If it is rubbing in the front and you do not have mud flaps then you may need to do some pinch weld work.

 

Thanks - yes, I took the mud flaps off and the bolts for the fender well protection. I think I will go ahead and bend the pinch weld so I can at least drive the truck.

 

hate to ressurect an old thread, but i have a 2wd 01 with a tired stock suspension set up in the front, any idea of 285/75/16s would rub? Im on the same wheels as @WaTrout88
