Might be posting this in the wrong place. Forgive me if I have. I have read through and searched but I can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for. I recently found a great deal on a cat back MBRP exhaust system. The guy had it for a week and said it was too loud while towing. Got a great deal and the system still smells new when it's hot. But at a warm idle you'd think it's still factory exhaust. The previous tundra I had was the same way. I spent hundreds on exhaust setups. True dual 40 flowmasters. Then 10 series flowmasters. Then dumped 10 series flows before I threw in the towel and accepted defeat that you can't make a Tundra sound off at idle like many GM and Ford trucks. That truck had 30k miles and was under a lifetime warranty so removing the rear cat was out of the question. This new to me truck has no warranty. We have no emissions testing here. And from what I've gathered the front cat does enough to not really hurt the polar ice caps and kill the endangered species of the world. Anyone can chime in on how the trucks sound with the rear cat removed at idle? The MBRP sounds great when in the throttle. And for the price I am satisfied somewhat. Just curious if the rear cat delete will give it that deep almost loping v8 idle.

From what iv been told on here is that Toyota uses high flow cats and not much sound and or hp/trq would be gained without doing the whole jba or equivalent long tube headers and deleting both and then adding the simulators on the 02 sensores to keep u from throwing a code. Urd sells the simulators and possibly dirtydeeds too. And I was told that and have a supercharged truck which I would think the fast the exhaust exits the better, so the cats must be super minimal. Also that looks like a dump exhaust (under the bed or backseat) ... or am I just not seeing the rest? I’m going threw similar issue, I have the 2nd gen TRD exhaust which is like 2.25 into the muffler, then 2.5” and 2.75” at the tail pipes and have no sound at idle

It has a 3" or bigger single exit pipe that exits pretty close to the factory location. The picture just doesn't have it in it. There has to be a way to get them to sound good at idle. The single chamber flowmasters I had on before weren't far from what I wanted to hear at idle. But after the truck idled down from a cold start it was still pretty quiet. Guess my solution might just be a dual in single out single chamber flowmaster. If it's dumped I'll lose some low end torque but with a tail pipe it'll be too quiet for me. I'd love to hear the guy from dirty deeds chime in on this. I can't afford to dump the money on one of his systems right now but it would be something in the future if it would have the right sound at idle. Straight pipe is too raspy and crackly for me. Just want that deep v8 idle. Droan doesn't bother me. It might one day when I'm older but right now I just want to hear this beast rumble!

I have tried more exhaust combos than I would admit, and at idle unless a cold start, the vvt-i makes it sound like a UPS truck.

Lol. I know that feeling. I'll admit to 3 different setups. And none sound as good as a GM ls with exhaust. Knowing I've got the hp and torque to destroy them keeps me content but man I'd love to have the sound and the HP and tq. Guess I can't have my cake and eat it too. Never understood that statement. What's the point of having the cake if you can't eat it?

3B05A6A1-E654-447D-995C-A51AB2F457F1.jpg So I wanted the sound..got it!1E20AE0E-72DF-4808-BCB7-8E6D57474BF7.jpg today got my bomb shelter of a muffler cut out (2nd gen Trd muffler was huge!) and a borla proXs xl welded on. It has a built in x-pipe and sounds pretty vicious. And guess what, 1min after the cold start at idle it’s as quiet as the Trd. But when driving it sounds like a old school charger which is what I wanted.104EE275-6F8A-4E1A-AF08-A2004EF8F54B.jpg

Very nice! At least we get the cold start, unfortunately for me only I get to hear it, and my neighbors that are still asleep. :notsure:

After Christmas I'm gonna delete the rear cats. Have a pipe welded in and see how it sounds. I'll sell the MBRP and get most of my money back and start swapping different mufflers till I find the sound I want. I'm gonna hold onto the rear cats in case the front ones fail. From what I've gathered all 4 are the same. I may try a single chamber flowmaster.

With the dual overhead cams you will never get the lope at idle that you are looking for add the VVT and at that point your dream is crushed.

I hadn't really thought about the vvt being the cause of it being so quiet. Darn you Toyota. Just had to fine tune the thing and make it too efficient to have any exhaust lope. I've even considered glass packs. I like how they sound on older trucks. But I'm willing to bet the sound quality wouldn't be the same on our DOHC VVT 5.7

I need to just stop the bleeding. Sell the MBRP save my money and buy the DD system. I've not heard any complaints on it. My wife will probably kill me for doing what I said I wasn't gonna do. The budget dump system he sells, does it have a loud idle?

I would definitely consider Keith’s setup, u can find 100’s of sound clips on here of that DD sound, I attempted to vid my new borla+TRD exhaust today and in the middle of it I had the truck go into limp mode..fml

I've been through the 6" and 8" DD systems and the budget system. Even the budget quiets down after it idles for a bit. I didn't get the low rumbling idle until I installed long tube headers and entire catback done in 3" tubing (two Magnaflow mufflers). The con to my current system is much more drone, and more rasp. I could probably clean the sound up with different mufflers and maybe a resonator, but I'm done messing with it for now.
