I just got back from a little 1200 mile romp / breakin ride. This is a great vehicle and can tell I made the right choice. That said she needs some minor tweaks to make it just right and hope the Forum can suggest mods. That are appropriate.

Body Roll. At highway speeds, quick manuvers etc. There is excessve body roll. This is not a sports car and do not have that expectation, still it feels excessive. What do you suggest?

Steering response. Again, at highway sppeds and especially with crosswinds there is a bit too much wandering and lack of positive steering response. What can Be done?

FWIIW i got 17.5 mpg for the 1200 miles and for one 250 mile segment I averaged 74 mph.

Love love love this vehicle and I have barely scratched it's utility.

    Welcome to the site.

LT tires will take care of this issue. Until you put some LT tires on, put the tire pressure up to 38-40 psi. P Metric tires suck on trucks.

Body Roll: The TRD Sway Bar (rear) will help, but may not be appropriate for certain off-road situations.

Steering: LT tires. If you do this, your mpg will suffer due to higher rolling resistance and greater weight. When choosing tires,
consider what you actually use the truck for, not just appearance. A 295 MT tire may look fantastic, but could be a disappointment if your truck's used mostly on pavement.

Understood. The truck is mostly highway. A small hit on mpg is less important than positive steering. Can you recommend tires? For instance on my Silverado I ran Michelin LTX which seemed very good.

Plenty of tire recommendations. What kind? (AT vs MT)

He was asking if you wanted All Terrain or Mud Terrain in a Light Truck LT tire.

    Lol

I would look for a good AT in a LT road range C.

LR E is just way overkill for a 1/2 ton truck.

You guys are patient, appreciated. I was running Michelin LTX with good results or at least I liked them. They were quiet and seemed to handle well.

If I can find my size in a LR C in the Michelin LTX...that is the route I'm going.

Take a look at Coachbuilder shackles. I have a TRD Pro that I got a month ago and always felt like I was dragging the a$$ end around corners and had to slow down way too much. Put some CB +2 shackles on yesterday, went for a 60 mile ride, and cornering is noticeably better. Very happy with them

    Appreciated bxcwolf7.

Looks like Michelin has several choices in the stock size ( P275/65 R18
    1. Defender® LTX® M/S
    2. LTX® A/T2
    3. LTX® A/S

On paper the A/T2 looks right.

Do you go off road that needs serious articulation? If not, then TRD rear sway bar is the easiest fix for body roll.

We just traded in our Sienna for a Nissan NV van (1 ton). Because of the height of the van, body roll would've been a problem. But it came with a rear sway bar stock and body roll is basically not noticeable.

I have Michelin LTX A/T2 275/70R18, a LRE tire. Also had 'em on my Titan in 285/65R18. An excellent tire for my needs, so that's my recommendation given your truck's mostly highway driven, as is mine.

I have the TRD Pro suspension kit installed, plus sway bar and Coachbuilder +1 shackles with poly spring bushings. This puts the roof 1 3/4" below my garage door power head, so I'm done with lift/level suspension mods.

All this stuff makes for a very smooth, stable and secure ride.

Tires and suspension are likely the most discussed mods, here and on the other Tundra forums. Probably because there's many superb tire/wheel/suspension products available for Tundras.

Spend some time reading before posting questions. Asking specifics vs. generalities will help you get to a decision that's right for you.

Unfortunately, there's no "pat" answer that any forum member can give you that'll guarantee the right solution for you.

    Best Regards,

I'm wondering if coachbuilder or Toytec shackles would fix my towing issues? Most times the truck pulls like a dream, but the rear end just feels like it can sway side to side, ever so little. Something like a worn rubber bushing would.

    Hey Too Tall . . . I've gotta know -

    1) How tall are you? My son's 6' 6", but fits well in his '16 SR5 CM.

    2) What kind of dog is that? My dog Evie - AKC non-working class (evident in avatar pic) - is a great companion.

    Thanks!

I'm 6'8" and fit the Tundra better than my 07 Silverado despite the stats. favoring the Chevy. Maybe lacking a sunroof on the Tundra is a huge help.

That is Sully, he is named after Chesley Sullenberger who landed a plane in the Hudson with all aboard surviving. He is a Standard Poodle. Goes with me everywhere, no leash and has some clever tricks like a secret signal for barking which is great for messing with kids. Looks great riding shotgun ;)

Yep, you're too tall. I've always admired the standard poodle breed. I'm sure Sully's a wonderful friend.

I agree, the sway bar is a good first step. I installed the TRD bar on my son's truck in about two hours. Did it with tires on the floor and working alone - i.e. no jack, no father/son bonding. You'll need a torque wrench. You'll end up with four large washers left over - they're for trucks with no factory trailer hitch.

    Here's just one eBay listing:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Toyota-TRD-...ash=item4648bcacb6:g:IP0AAOSwm8VUvr4L&vxp=mtr

It's from Richard Castillo, Parts Mgr. at Royal South Toyota in Bloomington, IN. He's great to work with.
If you call him at (812) 331-1100 (i.e. don't buy thru eBay) he may give you a better price.
Bought my Pro suspension kit here - lowest price on earth.

    Here's another source:

    http://parts.toyotaofcoolsprings.com/oe-toyota/ptr1134070

Roman (his first name) at Toyota of Cool Springs, Franklin, TN is a supporting vendor on TundraTalk.

    Good luck, keep us posted!

EXCELLENT :) I purchased the bar from the Cool Springs locale. I'll reassess after this and see where I'm at. I suspect this is going to do the deed. *I like stock(ish) vehicles.

I prefer stock too, so there's very little on/in my truck that isn't Toyota. The major thing that's not is the audio system.
I've made subtle changes - chrome reduction, leveling, 33" tires - so it's still very much a Tundra, and not a truck torn apart and rebuilt to look like it belongs in Baja.
I think you'll like the sway bar.

I might be a little late to the discussion, but I had a similar issue as the poster with the body roll. I purchased a 2016 CM 4x4 Platinum in June and every turn seemed like I was driving a boat. It was a big difference from my 2006 Tacoma. I'm putting a full suspension on it shortly and I went ahead and put new tires and wheels on it at 700 miles. The new tires are Nitto Terra Grappler G2 LT285/75R17 on Rock Warrior wheels and I was amazed how much this changed the handling. I went from oversize boat to almost as athletic as my Tacoma with the stock suspension. MPG hasn't suffered much, but I've only put on around 500 miles since the tire change. I'm getting around 12.5 to 13.5 in the city and around 17 to 18 on the highway. I know the LT tires are expensive and heavy, but I agree that they make a huge difference in the handling.

@driverdog, I ran the LTX A/T2's the last 4 years I owned my Titan - about 40k miles. I sold it in 2014 a few weeks after the Tundra arrived. The guy that bought it still had 'em on, as of a year ago. Unfortunately, I didn't ask him how many miles he had on the Titan at that time. Please note these were the LR E version of the A/T2. Can't give you much more info on how they wear.

The A/T2's on my Tundra only have a few thousand miles on 'em. I retired a few years ago, so don't roll up the miles like I did when working. I suspect the Tundra and A/T2's will last longer than I will. ;)

@too tall, glad to hear the sway bar's working out good for you. Hope Sully's doing well, too.

@Tracker, how are the CB shackles and bushings? Would you do it again? I would.

Yep, that first page doesn't paint a pretty picture.
There's many excellent tires out there, but none are perfect.
I guess if you do the research and buy wisely, you just might just end up with a decent set of tires.
    Good hunting!
