Anyone know of a good pulley hoist garage storage system rated for more than 200 pounds? My RTT is 200#, and I prefer never to max out on capacity, but I haven't found an option with higher weight capacity.

Thanks in advance for any help! Pics and links appreciated.

Build one. I used a couple pulleys, some steel cable and hand winch from harbor freight

Couple pics. Mounted 2x4 to ceiling and secured with bolts thru attic truss and steel plates above to keep from pulling thru. Hand winch from Harbor freight.

This Harken is the best-rated one I found ready-made, but it's Max capacity it 200#. If no one else posts a ready-made option with higher lift/ storage capacity :spy:, with these pics (thank you!) and the instructions for the Harken, I can probably figure it out. :fingerscrossed:

    :) Thanks, Fellas!

I have the 200# harken for my topper and it works great but like you said, you want more than 200#s. An option might be to use the harken but then add some ratchet straps to it for more weight support, assuming you have exposed beams in your garage.

I don't have exposed beams. I am planning to run bolts up through the drywall into a 2 x 6 laid over the rafters. X 2.

Build it yourself. Block and tackle, line, cleats. You know any sailboat owners? If they are anything like me, they have most of what you need laying around the garage.

Incidentally, Harken is such a large part of sailors lives I have a Dog named Harken. They make nice stuff.

No, it's still on the truck. I think it's a top priority every time I look at the truck. But when I get inside the house, other top priorities hold my attention. What are you thinking?

We'll use the RTT in a couple weeks. After that, it really will move back up the priorities list..., unless someone proposes another camping weekend just a few weeks out....

Camping trips you say lol I haven’t done nearly enough research but I’d like some kind of system that could be utilized as storage for the RTT too

The one N2Deep posted above looks like the best option for low cost. But we'd have to figure it out. :anonymous:

Or that Harken system above is well-rated, and would work well for your RTT, but not mine (too :muscleflexing:).

If you want to be the ginnea pig, we could hit Harbor Frieght and built I at your house, then I could probably replicate it at mine. The reason I'm suggesting you go first is because my garage is really full of stored stuff; learning somewhere else would allow me to know best how to locate it (I mean, which stuff to move first.)

Anyone else in SoCal, this offer extends to you. I'm comfortable crawling around in attics, and will be lovely assistant to the first person that answers up and wants a hand to do a cheap-ass RTT hoist build in your garage.

Edit: SD area would be my first choice , but I'll totally travel all the way to Hollywood for you, Marty! :D You my BFF!

Haha I don’t mind being a guinea pig. I just need to look at other options. Something with a motorized pulley would be ideal. The only problem is my garage is half finished, so finding studs would be a little difficult

It is true, all my buddies are saying to winch it. But even winches are cheap at HF. :boink:

Please let me know if you find one ready to go that has a weight limit 220# or higher. I don't feel comfortable using the one rated for exactly what I'll store. Seems like a good idea not to push that.

My tent came with a hoist and 2 straps the po built. Uses a auto stop hoist, similar to how blinds work.

Hmmn, link or pics? I guess only if it's not built on to your RTT.

You can always use a stud sensor to locate it. Typically you probably have a spacing of 12”, 16” or 24” spans from stud centers.

This is true, I don’t think the studs is really the problem. I’d want to reinforce it above the studs but getting to the rafters would be difficult.

Naw, dude, we'd just lay a couple of 2x6's across the studs, cross ways. Then insert long bolts up through the drywall, through those 2x6's. Secure on top of the 2x6's (in the crawl space) with wide washers and nuts. This'd spread the weight over as many studs as the length of the 2x6's used. Waaaaay better at dispersing the weight than bolting directly to studs or rafters. I can easily picture this part; I get hazy on the ratchet, straps, and connection points down in the garage.

I went with something a little different. I have a 66 Lincoln continental in the garage and I really can’t get my tundra to my garage. So I built a rolling rack that fits above the Lincoln. 3A30F93B-F9D7-4594-A639-5F7DB308D27A.jpg16A76353-FA76-46E0-AAD5-DB69A20CE694.jpg F1EB8B4C-106B-427B-9BB6-1AF1E5E96D10.jpg

It only takes two of us to get it on. The rack was originally designed. To roll over the mini behind the garage

Thanks for posting! I appreciate the creative alternative to a ceiling mount... and especially appreciate see a garage on here as packed with stuff as mine is ;). At least you're houses a vehicle. :anonymous:
