Sorry for the silly question but can anyone tell me exactly what bump stops are and what they do?

Rubber or synthetic square or round shaped “puck” that prohibits suspension travel beyond its design limits.

I have a 14 CM with 3/1 pro comp and sometimes when I hit certain bumps on the road I feel a weird shake at the steering, kid of like a loose shake if that makes any sense. Its not on big bumps just on hard bumps. Hard to explain but could bump stops be of any help?

No. Bump stops won’t help that. Your issue might be bump steer.

Correct. Sometimes a steering stabilizer helps. Make sure steering geometry is acceptable (likely ok but not ideal, which is stock)and everything is tightened to spec.

First time I've ever heard of comfortable bump stops... I guess I've always seen them as a simple means to protect suspension components in the event I go over a bump too large or quick.

Had wife and I laughing at that one.. Hysterical.
Goofy concept.. These super stops. I mean... Too much cushion, extended compression and suspension damage. Oversized stops, less travel. What are they hoping to accomplish here... Oh wait I know.
    $
Folks... In the name of all things holy, polyurethane stops last longer than rubber and come in all kinds of colors for the sake of fashion and color matching. Rubber holds its own and is relatively cheap, but comes in black.
You want a more comfortable ride? Less aggressive tires, different shocks, and if your really picky, change out your springs.
If it rides like a 20 foot Cadillac and drags it's ass because you have groceries in the back, don't blame Toyota .. Lol

    SuperStops... LMAO

Yeah I hear you. I do have super bumps. They do work rather well. I don’t think they limit travel much as they compress the same amount as the stock bump. It just slows it down so it’s not as harsh when it does bottom out. I’ve actually been thinking of taking them out as I recently upgraded to the pro suspension which has internal bump stops built into the shock.

Also extending your bump stops is what some people have to do if they don’t lift their truck properly. Or at least they did it cheap. If they don’t extend their bump stops the shock will bottom out and destroy itself before the bump stops even hit.

I have been thinking of adding super bumps to the rear of my truck as I can feel it bottomed out harsh at times. I think it just leads to less wear and tear on everything if it’s a progressive stop. Now hydraulic bump stops have their place in serious Offroad rides. I look at it like this. It balances out your set up. Yes you can go with more travel shocks but then you end up with the skyhigh Offroad rig. What this does is lets you set the ride height you’re looking for with your shocks and this is just an added safety feature so that you don’t totally bottom them out and break suspension parts as well as your back.

Ok. I can see it I guess. We used to rock crawl Jeep CJ,TJ,& JK and knew the minute we started lifting them and placing aftermarket suspension and Kevlar 37s etc., the comfort was gone and would never return. I understand the harsh “correction” can be undesirable. If folks are bottoming out, you need more spring, air bags for load..something.
I guess I struggle with trying to get my head around the idea as a product. Oh well. If it works and people like em, so be it.

I have been looking into the super bumps from wheelers and I see that we can add it to the front but is there anything similar or the same for the rear? I don't need hydraulic bumps for what I do with the truck that's why but all I can find for the rear are $200+ hydraulic stops.

I quoted your post because I see you were thinking of adding super bumps to your rear

I think it’s the Tacoma ones. Your best bet would be to call them. But I know I read it around here and I think it is universal between th Taco and Tundra.

@Tierhog for normal daily driving bump stop upgrades don't make much sense. If you start going off road with any sort of speed, something like the superbumps helps ease the harsh jolts of bottoming out. Adding a stronger spring isn't the answer unless you want that harsher ride 24/7. Putting in a bump stop with flexibility solves the problem without altering the ride.

If you're jumping a truck, thats where hydraulic stops would come into play (hopefully in conjunction with bypass shocks) but by then you're $5k+ into suspension for the front end alone and far from getting a use out of stock bump stops.
(That might be my longest sentence ever)

If those were available for first gens when I needed them I would have went that route. My superbumps are a bit tall and engage a little early, thats what I get for mixing Taco parts with a First gen Tundra.
