Hey guys can’t decide if I want to go for the full plug n play harness and just have drl led bright all the time or if I should go for harness that offers dimming drl, lets see some pictures and want to hear thoughts

Why would you want to dim the DRL? It is supposed to be a safety feature with the intention that other drivers notice you easier.; doesn't make sense to me to diminish the DRL effectiveness by dimming it.

Is there a switch that dims them? Or does it do it automatically? Gonna do this mod also

It depends on the harness. Some harnesses make it run like factory where they dim when the headlights go on and other harnesses make it so they stay bright all the time.

@iHacker harness dims and the retro fit one doesn’t. I wonder if he will just sell the dimming harness by itself

    1) pic of driving around with just DRL and Amber lights on
    2) headlights on
    3) tried to take a pic of just DRL but pics don’t do it justice it’s bright AF at night.

they were set up that way for a reason. I think a big one is visibility. esp during twilight times it will be especially difficult for oncoming vehicles to see your turn signal with a full brightness DTRL on.

I wish toyota kept the platinum style single bar LED, the wrap around led is a little flashy to begin with. and keeping them on full bright is kind of silly just drawing more attention, it's a toyota not a tesla.

In Toyota installed oem ones in the 2018’s they dim when the signals are on and when the headlights are on they dim

This. I went with the dimming harness from Ihacker. I don't want people to not be able to see my turn signals.

If I were to do it again, I’d get iHackers to dim like factory, I think he has one with no need for Motocontrol now too.

The 2018 low beams are killer bright especially if you're up a bit higher and pointing right at rear view mirrors or oncoming eyes. Add the LED DRL's at full brightness and people think you have high beams on.

Edit: Yes, had to check just now, rears are on in parking light mode (2nd position) which I could easily get away with driving at night in the city, DRL's acting as lows.

I'm struggling with the same question. What did you end up deciding @Walters96 ? Dimming or no dimming? Is dimming worth an extra $60???

On all of these harnesses, are the really plug and play or do you have to re-pin some plugs or any other tyoe of wire work?

while we are on headlight, anyone know why my auto headlight high beam dimming doesn't work all the time, could it be apposing dirty headlight, fog or mist??

I ordered the harness from @iHacker that does not dim, easy to install, and if needed I can put back to stock easy as installing the harness was.

Here are pic with low and high beams...

Thank you for the response. Do you feel like the DRL are too bright at night though? Do people flash you thinking your high beams are on?

Over all the LEDs are more bright, more white light than the stock halogen were, and a few times I had drivers flash me while they were one. I think its more of the person in the coming car and how sensitive they are to light and color spectrums than the LEDs being to bright. Keep in mind these are stock Toyota assemblies not some add in bulb in a halogen reflector assembly that is goin to scatter light everywhere
