Girl slams into the back of me on I10 east of Tucson. Her car is totaled. Im Pissed....brand new 2016 Limited TRD CM with 822 miles on the odometer. I drove 100 miles home after the accident...her Corolla left on a flat bed. Just had an estimate done and the damage is $9500

The good thing is I pulled to the left (I was in left lane) trying to get mostly on the shoulder when I had to panic stop because of stopped traffic in front of me. I tried to get mostly on the shoulder for this very reason (avoid getting rear ended). I didnt get over quite far enough and she still clipped me. Had I not pulled to the left she would have hit me dead on and no telling what could have happened. Pulling left probably saved the entire front end of my truck and possibly her life.
The impact shot me skidding into the median and I didnt know if I was gonna get it stopped before entering the westbound lanes of oncoming traffic. The antilocks were going nuts trying to get that thing stopped.

Glad you were both ok. Vehicles can be replaced. This would still piss me off though.

I just mentioned this in another thread about the safety rating of Toyota vehicles. I have seen Tundras get rear ended or front collisions at high speeds and the occupants walk away. Happy to say, you're one of these statistics that do just that.

Man, that's a tough break. I just bought mine and my heads been on a swivel looking out for distracted drivers.

Can't tell you how many really stupid drivers I've come across since I bought my 16 Tundra. It seems almost as if people see me & knock themselves out to do something totally out of the ordinary. Maybe it's just that I notice it more simply because I'm trying to preserve the newness of my truck.

Twice this past week I was stopped behind someone on an off ramp, when it was clear of oncoming traffic to the right & left, the driver in front of me would pull out onto the highway & halfway across the 4 lane would stop at the center of the highway in the median. Why? In fact around here it almost seems common practice for drivers to do a similar thing simply by slowing down to 5-10 mph when they reach the median instead of picking up their speed to the speed limit to keep ahead of traffic that may be coming from around a distant curve.

Two years ago I witnessed a woman driving a brand new Silverado who almost crossed the first two lanes of the 4 lane & stopped dead on the median with the bed of the truck blocking the leftmost lane of the section of road she was crossing, she then looked down the highway for traffic (?) coming from the opposite direction of the highway & then started to creep forward at 2 mph (?), but not fast enough, she got smacked by an ambulance coming around a curve from the opposite direction traveling full bore at 55. The impact left her hanging out of the cab with the driver's door completely torn off. When I got out to assist, the woman was laying alongside the edge of the road bleeding profusely from the head, not seriously but enough to put a scare into you. She was cited for illegal blocking of the highway, but I can't tell you how many times I see people around here do this & they cause many accidents because they somehow imagine they are being careful (?) drivers.

That was one lucky girl. Looks like the Corolla is designed pretty well. Looks like the front absorbed most of the force and didn't get to the cabin area. Did she have insurance I hope??

I'm glad it was a Corolla and not a semi.

Glad everyone is OK. It's unfortunate about your truck, but could always be worse.

That sucks. Looks like her problems won't be going away for some time. :crapstorm: I'm assuming you have Uninsured Motorist Coverage just in case.
