    Hello,

I’m trying to figure out whether to buy the Procomp extreme MT2 or the Nitto trail grappler MT. Of course the Pro Comp is about $80 more per tire but is it worth it?

We have snow about 4 months a year and I love to get muddy but I would not consider myself an “aggressive wheeler”...thoughts?

    Thanks!
    Steve

Don’t even consider the pro comps! Garbage!!! I made this exact change. My reason was more dealership caused then anything to be fair. They apparently never had them balanced after they were mounted. If you want a better snow tire something like the Duratracks might be better. I love my Trail Grapplers. They run quieter and smoother then the Pro Comps. I am using 35x12.50 18’s.

I just realized you asked the suspension question too. Lift I’m happy with... tires no.

I wish I would’ve known that the damn Nitto Trail Grapplers we’re so heavy.
The Nitto is like 81 lbs (35x12.50x18) where a Goodyear MTR is like 62 lbs! That’s Fing 20 lbs rotational weight!
10 lbs rotational, is like 120 lbs sprung weight.
On all 4 wheels and tires - that’s equivalent to 960 lbs sprung weight total.
That’s not over stock tires - that’s over a comparable sized Kevlar MTR!

I didn’t know the Grapplers were so heavy until I left the tire shop and stepped on the skinny pedal. I previously had Toyo AT’s and there was a huge difference.

    Food for thought.

Very good point. I remembered one was heavier(in my case not as drastic) but still heavier. I just couldn’t remember which one.

I don’t have any first hand experience with either of these but I was also considering the BFG KM3’s and the Cooper STT Pro I think it’s called.

Maxxis makes the procomp tires now. I have the ridgegraplers they didn’t last long at all. They did good off-road mud and rocks sand. I’ll be getting the MT2’s next set

Edit. The nittos are heavy as hell too

Thanks for the specifics on this! Exactly the info I've been looking. A buddy told me he put Nitto's on his wife's Tundra and remembered reading somewhere later they were way heavier than he realized.

I've been looking at the Cooper Discoverer STT Pro's and the GoodYear Wrangler Duratracs

Anybody got experience, thoughts on either one????

I had a set of DuraTrac’s on my 14 4Runner. I loved them. They did great in the sand... great in the snow. I kinda let Discount Tire talk me out if them but I was in a hard spot and needed tires. Ended up getting the Nittos. If the wife gets another 4Runner I want to use the Duratrac’s Again... unless something better comes up.

STT Pro and Duratrac are considered All season/All terrain even though they look fairly aggressive.
My wife has gone through 3 sets of Duratracs on her rig and they have been awesome. She only crawls malls, so can’t speak for extensive hard off road use. I just wanted her safe in the winters with nasty roads, and the Duratracs deliver.
I ran from Portland/Bend/Bachelor in her rig and did about 400 miles on ice and snow over the week. They are impressive for what they are, in my opinion.
Can’t speak for STT Pros, maybe someone with a lot of miles on them can comment.

    Ps - Duratracs lasted forever!!!!

    Thanks gents!!
I've been running the MT Deegan 38's (35/12.5, 20) for two years. I've only done lite to moderate off-roading. Had some chunking on one of the rears, and both of the fronts have taken on some terrible, irregular wearing since the last rotation.

Looking more like the Duratracs are going to be the next ones. Now if I can just find the discount code from earlier this week for GoodYear. I've been holding out in hopes of some Black Friday deals.

Just got an email from Discount tire about up to 20% off wheels and tires. Online and In store... 22-25. Different days for online vs in store.

I had the same problem with chunking on my Tundra( Pro Comp tires) which is why I needed new tires right then.

I've read a lot of good stuff on the Cooper STT Pro's, and those are definitely a mud tire. The trail grapplers look awesome, but the weight is one of the reasons I have not gone with them.

I had Pro-comp XTREME A/T on my old diesel. They were loud but so was the Cummins. Other than they were fine - wore great.

GY Duratracs bought! Appt for Sat.
Thanks again for the input brotha!!

I found the discount code I was referring to. It's; NASCAR20
Gave me 20% off retail price of tires. Which in the grand scheme of things, the discount covers the cost of the install fees, and other taxes and fees.
Plus I got $100 off for buying online, and a $100 rebate which I was able to complete online as soon as I completed the purchase.
Altogether save a little over $200. Not bad...

Going from the MT Deegans to an AT will certainly reduce some road drone and allow me to enjoy my new @dirtydeeds 8" exhaust I just installed.

I got the ProComp 37 MT as a package deal with my LRG wheels. So far so good, but keeping an eye on this thread to get more input

Awesome congrats! I hope you like them as much as I Did. We are currently looking(hope it stays that way for now) for the wife’s next 4Runner. Going with the Duratracs and not getting talked out of them. I do like my Nitto’s but I have’nt had them in snow or sand yet.

Also I drone out any unwanted talking/sounds with my @dirtydeeds budget system and if that doesn’t work I just crank up the Focal’s.

Nitto all the way. I had Pro Comp on my other truck and they wore out in under a year. I’m not impressed with them at all. Since then, I have multiple Nittos. Just put a new set of Nittos on my truck two weeks ago....they are great!

I ran the PC MT2's for 2yrs and logged about 70k on em. Key is to keep them in tight rotation and they'll treat you good. The tire is made by Maxxis and carries the 40k mileage warranty. But I've always favored the Toyo RT which is what I'm rocking now
