If you want one, do it now. You can always trade it later for the latest and greatest.

When I bought my '14 CM everyone said Toyota would do an update in 2018...I figured in 4 years I'd get a new "refreshed/redesigned/completely remade Tundra...nope...

I just added 2019 LED lights and 2018 fogs and its like new again...I only have 64K on it so far...I will keep it a bit longer I suppose.

Next I'd like to upgrade to the 38 gal gas tank.

Besides, with everything else Ive done, it's about the same as a new one in terms of features...except mine has a little more power.

If it’s coming in 2020 I would wait a extra year to iron out any new tech, engine or multi speed trans. I learned my lesson buying the first year of a complete remodel. Once was horrible, the other was a constant little fix here and there.

That’s a great point. Even if the new model is dropped and is significantly different in powertrain, who wants to be the year one guinea pig? They’re bound to find bugs to tweak and improve between Y1 and Y2 of a redesign.

I’ve always felt bad for the suckers who bought a 2010 Mustang GT. Lots of people jumped on it when they gave it a new body and then a year later gave it the amazing new Coyote engine. You couldn’t sell a 2010 GT for half price in 2011.

Point is, you never know. Might as well spend a few years enjoying a nice Tundra instead of worrying what’s around the corner.

Don't get mad at me but it is difficult not to consider the 2018 GMC Sierra SLT at around $40K now with all the bells and whistles with a little better gas mileage. The resale will suck though.

Good luck with the afm on those. Does 2-3mpgs really make up for the lack of reliability?

Seems that the most common issues are related to software fixes. I wouldn't be too concerned buying a new Gen Tundra with a new power plant. My 07 at one point was a 1st year new Gen. Zero issues with mine. No cam tower leaks, no sensor failures because there ain't none. The simpler the better IMHO.

I just purchased my '19 and did not want to wait. I was afraid that the new Tundra styling would go the same route as the Tacoma and I do not like the way the Tacoma looks now. It looks like a Tonka toy to me. I like the look of this gen Tundra.

I love my 2018. I wouldn't wait, but I also wouldn't want the first few years of a new generation.

Toyota (like many of the Japanese automakers) keeps their upgrades under wraps. I'd purchase now and not worry about what the overhaul will look like. Take out the factory radio and install one with better sound and more flexibility. Maintain and drive until the wheels fall off.

If you're one of those that needs all the whizzy bangs and whatchamacallit's in the truck to be happy, buy a GMC/Ford/Ram product. You purchase a Tundra for the solid and reliable platform, not for all the extra toys. I'd rather have poor gas mileage and a reliable truck than slightly better MPG's and having to deal with an unreliable vehicle. This is especially true the more miles I roll on the clock. You have to decide what works best for you.

I went on the plant tour about a month and a half ago. They confirmed there would be a new body style for 2020 but wouldn't comment on engine and what not.

Can I ask why everyone is so obsessed with push button start? I have it on my wives CX-5, and my DD Rav4. Not that big of deal to whip out a key, IMO. The ONLY thing I like is the walk up to the car and it unlocks, but that can get annoying if you stop then try to open one of the rear doors.

I actually don't even want push button start. I agree, I've seen people bitching about having to use a real key, I don't get it. Only change there I might be in favor of would be a folding key.

In all seriousness.. If that's the stuff that's important to you then go buy an F-150 because that's the stuff that Ford focuses on and you can have what you want right now.

Toyota focuses on dependability and not the latest and greatest gadgets. I wanted a tough truck that will last and hold its value. I don't need or want a bunch of useless (to me) "Technology". Sure, better gas mileage would have been nice but not if that means a smaller engine with a power adder or more electronics to shut off cylinders (or whatever other games other makers are playing to get better MPG's).

But that's just me. If you want that stuff then go with the brand that will give what you want.

I love how people say to wait a couple of years after the new generation comes out as to iron out the issues. If everybody did that, there wouldnt be a Tundra after two years. That being said, I bought a 2017 in October with 18000 miles. Figured I would drive it for three years or so then pick up a 2020 or 21 with low miles.

enjoying everyone's input on this but I'm gonna add another perspective. YOLO, I've recently lost my Dad and Uncle and it really puts in perspective on what am I waiting for. I could've sat and waited for the 2020/2021 what ever the rumor is but I am not guaranteed I will be around till then. Enjoy life with a little balance of preparing for the future. As others have said, "Lease or Trade in 2019 for the new one". My advice is don't go down regretting. Plus you will have something to compare to. Good luck on your choice.

If you like the current Tundra, and are in the market, then I'd say buy one. It is possible the new model will be ugly, and not as awesome. And if it's even better, and I do expect it will be, then you can always trade later. The low depreciation on these trucks works in your favour.

Yeah I was iffy about it at first, but using it since April of 2010, it’s kinda a routine for me. Strange I know, but compare it to doing the same routine, whatever it is, for 8 years and then you have to switch. Granted change isn’t always a bad thing, but....

So what’s this apple play shit that’s such a big deal? I don’t get all the fancy do-dad crap.
I mix my DD between my Lexus and Tundra - and although the Lexus is pretty Fing nice inside, it’s a Luxury sedan - it’s supposed to be. I drive the truck, to drive a truck.
When I get in both vehicles, my phone wirelessly connects via Bluetooth and does every thing I need it to?
What the hell else could I ask for? LOL
Although with the Lexus just touching the door handle and having all doors unlock is pretty nice, never pulling a key out. But it takes like 3 seconds? I would never let that be the deciding factor between shit reliability, I can assure you that.

Storage for what? There’s hardly any room for storage in the tundra unless you’re talking gravel/mulch/etc in the bed of the truck

Great responses. OK I can live without a lot of the bells and whistles, but remote start is a must...I guess I will get that aftermarket.

My wife has it on her MDX. It is convenient and that's about it. It's also easier to steal and the key fobs are insanely expensive if they are damaged or lost.
