Well, I don't blast the stereo so I can hear it. The 16 Silverado was much quieter but even with Tundra's massive engine, i can still hear it.

It's a normal noise. It's the ABS self check. Not a big deal and most days I don't notice it anymore. Some days I do

My 2018 does the same upon startup, there is no way this is normal. Taking mine to dealer soon, bought it a month ago and has stock exhaust.

I listened for it today and I think my month old 2018 did it a couple times. It was a warm day.

In the grand scheme of life, I really don't care. I still love my truck and it changes nothing for me. I would suggest worrying about something else or turning up the music.

Yes, the 18+ can do the test whenever it needs to apperantly, so it may happen more often. I get what you all are saying, first start of the day and mine can be a shocker, other times barely noticeable.

I also have a 2018 with 500 miles. Makes the same noise. Told the dealership bout and to me to drop it off and what it is.

Mine does it cold start at 6mph. Its normal. And to be honest if this is the only gripe people have with their trucks... well I am amazed and relieved. I have owned chevy's with the dreaded tranfercase tick, the horrible AFM oil consumption and a ram that would literally shut down and have to be towed to the dealer. This is my first Tundra and so far I am more that happy with the the truck. I can deal with a ABS self check at 6mph

    Mine was a transfer case,
The clunk was everytime I accelerated from a stop. Finally got Toyotas attention as the dealer kept telling me it was normal - obviously it wasnt as they wouldn't have had the field tech find an issues with the t-case and have it replaced.

Good job admins! This sticky post/thread served it's purpose. New member and new 2019 Tundra owner since yesterday. My Tundra had less than 30 miles and noticed this clunk when pulling out of the parking lot. I thought it was something to do with the parking brake disengagement when rolling. Now, I have my answers. I do notice the clunk is a little louder if the steering wheel is turned when first rolling out of park.

@lotsip i have a 2019 and it has the clunk. it’s just the abs self test. It only happens when you turn on the ignition. And go 5-15mph then it doesn’t happen until you start the truck again next time

Just bought a 2019 few weeks ago and yes, that clunk is still there. I’m going to buy some new rims/tires soon, so I’ll double check, but I’m good with the ABS check answer. I will say it caught me off guard before I read this thread!

@shackleford rusty my kids love it when it’s all rolled down, and the back window rolling down was one of the reason I wanted a crewmax, especially when the weather is nice

Hahaha....go buy an 8 speed GM truck and drive around a parking lot for 5 minutes slowing down for speed bumps.
Between the driveline slack and confused automatic, you will be checking your rearview to see if the rear end got spit out during the violent slamming/jerking upshift downshift.

Nothing like being embarrassed to enter a parking garage in a new truck in front of your friends. KAP-POWW!

(BTW these conditions are normal according to GM Dealers and fanboys somehow??)

My 2020 Tundra has the clunk has well. I came here to check if it was normal and everything seems fine to me now! I've noticed a weird rattling noise around 100 on the drivers side after giving her full throttle in the dirt yesterday. I'll give her a good wash and see if it still makes that noise.
