My headlights? Hard to remember but I know the projectors are DS2 and I went with 55 watt ballasts. Shrouds are called Apollo or Apollo 2, cant recall.

Any issues with the 55w ballasts getting too hot?

Real question is, would you go 55w again or 35w?

None yet, been 3 years. I never tried a 35w set up so I couldn't say, I just wanted to go as bright as I could and took the 55w option.

Good to hear. I’ve never lived where there are street lamps so I need the most light possible. Drove the truck last night and the reflectors are a joke. Looks like I’ll continue to drive the 4runner at night till Black Friday.

I've never seen the Jet one. You just plug this in, run the wire where you want and set it.

If you get the plug n play it will work for your 02. I've heard that these don't get along with 05-06 unfortunately.

If you order one ask for maybe 3 meters of wire, they won't charge extra for that.

After I installed I posted in the graveyard known as TS. A member there chimed in telling me that, I guess they are wired a bit differently, maybe a 5 speed thing.

Page 2 has been rather uneventful. Once I get my front end back together (so that I can stop saying that) I'm going on pause again. Looking to buy a house in the next few months. I've checked out a few in the last week, saw one with a garage and 6 parking spots in the driveway last night. Has my interest lol.

Its been awhile, but I finally read through your whole build! haha I really dig the truck and all your hard work. Im curious what you used the yellow box to fix the speedometer and odometer. Me and my brother in law just put 33s on his first gen and wanna know how you did it.

Thanks for reading. It just plugs in, then you have a few switches to make adjustments. If you have an 05 or 06 it might not work, but the 00-04 it works well. I made below.

I suppose I could post some pics of what I've been up to.

    Rebuilt my arms

I had to clean out the insides here, the cups for uniballs were clean but the parts where bushings go was rusty.

I had an unfortunate injury around this time, between that and wanting to get my truck going I changed directions. I planned to spend a day fighting with the original lower arms to get the bushings out and press in new Toyota ones, but instead I bought new lower arms from Beck Arnley. The arms look okay but the bushings look weak. They'll do for a while.

    20181210_170717.jpg

To keep those lower arms in check I got Superbumps from Wheelers. They're quite a bit taller than factory bump stops and they compress a lot. One guy did a test and reported that these compress to be smaller than OEM stops, I found that hard to believe until I drove on them but I left OEM ones on the back for good measure.

New Toyota lower ball joints to go with the new Toyota wheel bearings and seals and such.

Old ones were beat to hell. What you can't see in pictures is how gritty they felt when spun by hand.

    Its alive!
    20190128_185559.jpg

Upper and lower arm angles looking great. I think I mentioned before that they were horrible at my ride height prior to this rebuilding. I lowered the coilovers several spins and this is a very reasonable height now.
    20190128_191026.jpg

Tires were not looking great. Over 50k miles and tread at 7/32s on front is impressive, rears had less but all have dry age and cracks all over. Not to mention all these tires have bad cupping which might have been from the lower arm bushings.

So I'm back to brand new Yokohamas
    20190215_190109.jpg

They're quiet, smooth, firm and should last a long time. They have great traction in rain so far and if they're like the prior model they will do well on dirt too. I have the passenger style ones on my Element and they kick ass in snow and ice.

A few notes about how it is now.

I lowered the front end a bit during this rebuild. It relieves stress on all of the pivot points and gave a nicer ride since the shocks have more available droop.

With the way the ride height settled in I am slightly compressing the Superbumps at normal height. I can feel them provide a cushioned resistance when I take turns and hit bumps on the road, they make the ride really smooth. Time will tell if riding on them causes rapid wear, I don't think they are designed for that. I would like to put a set on the rear when time and funds permit.

My new tires are E rated, previous ones were D rated. I can definitely feel that the sidewall is harder now as the bumps and dips transfer a little more jolt. The prior tires felt like clouds compared to these new tires.

I'll be getting alignment after this weekend. That will tell me if the SPC alignment cam bolts kit is good or not. Forgot to show that I swapped the OEM ones for SPC, I just could not spend $400 on Toyota ones. The design is quite different, and I found it alarming that SPC torque spec recommendation is 150ftlbs where Toyota torque spec is I think 100ftlbs or so. I am afraid of bending or stressing the tabs on the frame.

Those are Rigid SRQ backup lights. They have been there for years and were about $200 but many cheaper alternatives are around now. When I got them there was no other option really, but I'm sure they'll last forever.
