Should I wait for 2020 tundra?

What month does does Toytota put out the new model years for sale (2020)?

I assume the 2020 will have Entune 3.0 with Apple car play, Remote start, More USB ports, and a more fuel efficant engine.

I have a 2015 LT Tahoe and it is loaded with way more features that a "Limited Tundra" but I am amped on getting a 2019 because I dont want to wait but....I think I will regret it when the 2020 comes out in maybe less than a year?

Who knows, but it seems like 2021 at the soonest. Toyota seems to only make incremental changes anyhow.

Tundra and 4runner are next on the road map. Saw it a while ago.

That being said, I got my 2018 because it usually takes a few years to iron out the bugs. So maybe I'll get a new one in 2025 haha

There will always be new models coming out. If you're worried about regret because you don't have the latest features you should probably just do 2 year leases.

Wait one more year. See what the 2020 has in Aug/September of next year. If nothing really different, get a 2019 for cheaper.

Next February (2019) at the Chicago auto show we should see if they have a new model for 2020. If they do it should come out in fall. If not another year will probably be the new model.

Probably the v6 twin turbo as in the Lexus ls500 and the 5.0 v8 as in lc500

It's been years since Toyota made any changes to the Tundra. I've heard the 2020 is the 'new' Tundra

I’m over here loving my ‘18 hoping it’s not updated until 2022...

“New” tundras are speculated every year. You should buy a truck and enjoy it. It’s a solid, proven platform. If you buy new and can’t live without a new model in two years, the awesome resale will help you out.

I would wait and see. The next generation will likely be on a completely new platform; a frame up overhaul. You could see a fully boxed frame with improved crumple zones for better offset crash results. Technology, passenger safety, and fuel economy will be much needed updates. If you don’t want to be an early adopter, then wait, watch the forums, and go for the next one.

I always said “as soon as Toyota releases a diesel” I would upgrade. Never happened and last month I bought a 2018 Crewmax to replace my wonderful and in as close to perfect condition a used truck could be 2003 Tacoma (just needed something bigger).

I strongly considered waiting until 2020/2021 for the new Tundra because what’s another few years and the Tacoma ran perfect. But everything I kept hearing in rumors actually pushed me to the current style.

I don’t want more electronics (although I admit the CarPlay would be nice). I don’t want hybrid or electric engines. I don’t want additional complexities and electronic assists beyond valid safety features. What I want is strength and reliability and that is what the current Tundra has mountains of.

I believe that the Tundra of this generation may be the last of its breed. Well built, simple and completely reliable over many years. That’s what I wanted and why I didn’t wait.

I haven't seen much reputable info on the next gen Tundra, who knows when its coming. Maybe a 3rd gen wont even happen, who knows. If you like the current model I would go ahead and make the jump, once the new one comes out you will most likely want to wait 2yrs for issues to be ironed out.

Same boat as original post, we are expecting our 3rd child next May and don’t believe 3 car seats will fit right in the back of my limited 4Runner, damnit I love that thing and it has 150k miles on it since I bought it new.

I like the idea about the lease, but the other part wants to just bite the bullet, buy a used one for a few years and go from there. Now there is another part of me that wants to see what the sequoias are doing next year, they have to be due as well, right?

Looked at Rams, not the biggest fan, but damn lots of technology there. Fords are out, and the new bow ties and tiaras, can’t wrap my head around how they look, is it a canyon or a full sized?

Gut says stick with yote, but no push button, no updated tech safety features finally made it for the 2019s...it’s going to be a hard decisions.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Matt

I wouldn't wait if it were me, with all the safety stuff that's being added. But then again, I'm also the kind of guy that prefers minimal nannies, hell if I were to buy another Tundra I'd likely keep this one and buy a 2016/2017 so I didn't have the extra sensors.

Dodge doesn't care about safety. F150 is not bad, but I'd never give up my tundra.

I disagree with a blanket comment that any North American automaker doesn’t care about safety. They are legally obligated to. :boink:

The 2019 Ram 1500 did do quite well on safety tests though:

    https://www.autoblog.com/2018/11/08/2019-ram-1500-iihs-crash-tests/

However, I spent a lot of time looking at the Ram and test driving it. Loaded up it’s gorgeous with that massive touch screen, auto leveling suspension and cameras in every corner. But it wasn’t reliable even on a test drive. A coworker has one and it’s been in for multiple software updates because of system lockups. As soon as the warranty is up the truck will take a value nosedive.

I had a 2016 Chevy Tahoe Z71. It was in the shop because it was losing voltage to the electric power steering rack. Secondly the MyTouch Infotainment Cluster went out, blackout completely, rendering it useless. As the vehicle got older, squeaks and rattles developed. I dont know how the qa guys let some of these Tahoes out of the Arlington Plant. I have owned a Tahoe before this one where the door failed to line up with the body panel. Ive seen panel gaps and tolerances that are way off on the grills of the new RST Tahoes. I was willing to give GM numerous chances, but finally gave up on them. As much technology as it had, there is no discounting the issues that the displacement on demand or active fuel management cause. Longevity of these engines has been sacrificed in regards to squeezing out a couple of mpgs. The noisy rear end and G80 locker and 2 speed transfer case operated like a orchestra of banging metal plates. I decided to trade it in and get a Tundra. The Tundra may be lacking in superficial creature comforts like a hotspot or android auto apple play, but the solid platform with reliability and durability sold me.

Don't hold your breath on Sequoia. While looking for my truck this past summer, two different salesmen at two different dealerships mentioned Sequoia sales were so poor that they wouldn't be surprised if Toyota discontinued them in the next year or so.
