Last weekend we went out to a place about an hour from home. Had a great time! Saw lots of wild life (close encounter with a Grizzly as well). Camp setup was really good and will only need to make a couple of small changes for our next truck camp trip.

Nemo bag was awesome, temps were in the 0 range at night (celsius) but i also had a blanket over top but i slept in just underwear and a toque and was comfy. Tons of space in the bag for moving around, highly recommend it!

I will post up some pictures when I can. We went there last summer. That same area may be closed right now due to fires.

Looks like fires have started hitting Carson national forest as well.

Anybody add some new gear lately?!

My Coleman has stood the test of time but all others I’ve purchased had already gone to stove heaven. If you’re looking for two burners then you can’t go wrong for the price. They make more sophisticated but that just means more fail points and probably don’t need many of the added features unless cooking is a focal point

    Gonna keep this thread going...
Heading to Virginia the first week of August to do some more hiking in the Appalachians.
Finally retired my Norh Face pack for a nice Gregory. That thing is so much more comfortable and breathable and finally upgraded to a 3L hydration bladder too.

You guys have any essential gear you recommend for all day hikes? Will be doing close to 8-10miles a day.

    How many days total?

What all do you currently have?

Aside from freeze dried meals, cliff bars are my favorite hiking snack. They pack lots of nutrition for hiking.

Cliff bars have always been a must for me.
We aren’t sure yet, might do a 2 night trip but mostly just day trips.

camping up in the red feather lakes is pretty great. not far either.

I ONLY do dispersed National Forest lands or BLM spots. hate being near people when i want to get away.

Just backpacked a small peak(Bonanza) here in Vegas 2 weeks ago. Up to 10k+ for the night to get some training in. Just got back from a hiking weekend and put in 38ish miles. Camped in Flagstaff and hiked Humphreys peak to 12,633 and a little over 11 miles. Then turned around and camped at the North Rim and hiked to the South Rim - a little over 27 miles. That was a great hike for sure and want to do it again with more time to explore. I am heading out next weekend to hike part of the Zion Traverse and about 20+ miles. Got some new gear that I am excited to try.
New Pack Atmos 50, some Hoka Speedgoat 2 Trail shoes and a new tent. Have a few pics up on my IG - @xplor_outdoor wife is still sorting thru pics and making a video. Will try and post back to share some of the good ones.

Just got back from an couple night backpack in Zion Backcountry. Only 1.5hrs from my house.
Only a 16 mile hike to test my new tent. Hykeandbyke 2 man and for $89 it was as good or better than the $350+ REI tents. Just under 5lbs including footprint, tent rainfly, poles and stakes. Also a new pair of Hoka Speedgoat 2 trail shoes. Those we're OK but still prefer my trail running Innov8 X-Talon 212 by far the best shoes for the trail. Even with a 30lb pack.

Just got back from a few more days in the Grand Canyon. Headed back into the Canyon 2 more times this month. My 19yr old just inherited my old pack, sleeping bag, sleep pad along with a new stove and water filter. He is hooked I think. Likes to Rock climb so plans to backpack into spots and spend a few days climbing/ bouldering in the mountains.

Pack you bag. I have one spot open on my permit for an amazing hike in the GC at the end of the month. Haha. Or you can join me on climbing Mt Whitney up the mountaneers route in the snow.
