What are you going to do to your truck? Lift? Tires? Long travel? Off-road armor?

It’s gonna be just a truck for now. If it gets a new frame I’ll get a set of +1 tires, new front shocks to lift the front to match the rear, and use it for a winter vehicle/atv hauler. My daily car is a slightly lowered accord, so it’s not that good in the winter.

Well, I dropped it off. It looks like they’re going to keep it until the process is done, so my parents are coming to pick me up from the dealership. that’s not quite what I was told in the phone.

also, here's some pictures from the frame that I took before I dropped it off.

Needless to say, if they don't replace the frame, they messed up.

Costs. The frame is free of course. They charging you for other stuff? Not associated with frame.

On the Tacomas (from what I remember), they only replaced the frames if the truck is worth more than the cost of the repair. If not, they bought it out at book value plus some extra and scrapped it. Not sure if they just did that or gave you the option at that point.
Regardless, I hope they give you a new frame - that thing looks scary!

yeah that could be. either way, I would be pretty happy.

as far as the rust goes, it's just weird. it's really bad in a couple areas, but just surface rust everywhere else. I don't really understand it.

I assumed from this post that the frame replace was a done deal as they were keeping it. In my case, I took the 02’ in a few months back for the recalls to be checked out and they went ahead and sprayed the back portion of the frame. Everything done in 3 hours.

Hope it works out for you.

Well, I have good news and bad news.

The good news is, I’m getting a new frame!

The bad news is, apparently the frames are make-to-order now, and that means I’m without the truck for “a few months” whatever that means. So we’ll see what happens.

Ugh. Did they throw those other extra costs items on you yet?

Stoked on your new frame. You got a great deal on the truck, so its still worth it even with the wait.

No extra costs so far. We’ll see what happens. And thanks! I’m stoked too. I’m going to update the OP with agenda items for when the frame install is done.

    Updated to do list.

    Agenda items:
    • NEW FRAME! (in "a few months")
    • Replace upper ball joints if the dealership doesn't.
    • NEW TIRES. fronts are shot from bad ball joints.
    • Airbag clock spring
    • Front CV axles (the boots are torn and flinging grease)
    • Fabricate a side exit exhaust.
    • new front doors (they're rotten)
    • New front fenders (to eliminate rust)
    • New bed? or fender panels?
    • New Front shocks, adding another inch of lift to match the rear.
    • can't think of anything else right now.

stopped by the dealership to visit the old girl yesterday. no update on the Frame replacement, but I went back and let it run for a while. Started up, and ran like a top. first run in 3 weeks.
