Anybody mount Baja XL Sports in the stock fog bumper location on their Gen 2??

I picked up a set of XL Sports of CL and I'm wanting to mount them in the stock fog location. After pulling the wheel liner, stock fog and bezel, it looks doable with a little bracket fab work.

Just wanting to see if anyone else has done this as I'd rather not reinvent the wheel if I don't have to.

Also, the XL Sports should be fine plugged into the stock harness? Specs seem the same as the Squad Sports which, I think, use the stock harness.

I’ve been searching online all day for the exact same setup for my 2nd gen tundra and had that same question lol

Lol... Same with me. Seems like there's nothing out there unless you're doing ditch lights. Hopefully someone that has gone before us will post something up in the next few days. If not, when I fab something up I'll be sure to post it up here.

Yea I’ve only came across either ditch lights, 3rd gen tundra, Tacoma’s and 4runners...... the only 2nd gen tundra that I saw that had them on the picture was too dark to see. But man I was thinking of going with squadron pro you got the xl sport nice!!!!!

    Ok, here we go.

Popped out the stock fogs and bezels to see what I was up against. No bueno using the bracket that the stock fog mounted to. Too off center and it's a little too flimsy.

So, the Sports fit nicely in the the holes but I'm gonna need a bracket. Looked in my metal bucket and found this piece of aluminum angle from an open relay rack. Hey! If I cut off each end I'll have 2 holes pre-drilled. Perfect!
    IMG_20181112_144143068.jpg

    Yup. This will work nice.

Drilled a hole in the bumper mount and bolted on the bracket with the light in place for a little test fit. The washer that looks out of place is being used as a shim because the weird angle of the bumper bracket would have my new bracket tilting back too far. 5/16 bolt and a lock washer on each end and that thing is not going anywhere.

Cut the crap out of my bezel to get it to fit around the BD light. With the bezel being round and the light being square I tried using a heat gun to mold it around the light a little better. Not a lot of success with that so I ended up with a little bit of gap on the sides, top, and bottom. With the wheel liner back in place it's dark enough behind the lights that you don't really see the gap unless you're really looking. I'm pretty happy with it, at least for now.

Waiting to hear back from Baily and crew @Baja Designs for the proper connectors to plug into the stock fog harness. In the mean time I temporarily rigged a couple wires to one of them to see how it looked. I like!!!

Well, there you go. BD XL Sports mounted in the stock fog locations on a 2nd Gen Tundra. When I get the proper connectors and get them hooked up I'll post a pic with them lit up.

Looks nice!!! Was it hard to level them? Have you tried them out at night already?

Just keep the L-bracket level with the bumper mount and all is well.

Haven't tried them full blast at night yet, just the one temp hookup as a test. I ordered some male plugs from Amazon to hook into the stock fog harness. They're supposed to be here Friday. Once everything is hooked up I'll adjust the tilt and left/right and tighten everything back up. Not a whole lot of adjustment room due to the plastic fog bezels/shrouds but it's seems like there'll be enough. Still haven't put the wheel liners back in yet either.

Never did hear back from BD after I emailed them about an adapter, which I think is unusual from their rep on this forum.

What would be the difference between xl and squadron. They seem to have the same output power ?

My connectors won't be here until tomorrow but I'll do a temp hookup today and get them tweaked and aligned how I want them so I can just install the connectors and button everything back up. I'll try to get some pics tonight.

From what I've read, the reflectors (size and depth of the little buckets) are the major difference. Being deeper and larger they project the available light a bit further/wider??? At least that's kind of how I understood it. @Baja Designs could explain it a lot better than I ever could.

The main difference is the size. The Squadron is a 3"x3" light where the XL is 4.5"x4.5".

Squadrons have smaller reflectors which put out more light in the near and midfield range. XLs have a larger reflector which provides a more focused beam and more distance. The larger reflector does make a difference in the Wide Cornering pattern, XL is a 44 degree beam where the Squadron is 42.

Here are some photos showing the comparison with our Driving/Combo pattern:

Night Shots - Squadron Sport Combo.jpg
Night Shots - XL Sport Combo.jpg

Note: These are old photos showing the 1,800 Lumen count. Squadron Sport and XL Sport now put out 3,150 per light.

    ^ Hope this helps

Soooooooo, got my connectors today, hooked em up, did some adjusting, and buttoned everything up.

These things a hella bright! I can only imagine what the lastest version are like at almost double the lumens.

    Low beams only.

    Lows and XL Sports.
    IMG_20181116_184435007_LL.jpg

I'm running them on the stock fog light switch but I have a feeling I my run them independent since I can't run the high beams and fogs at the same time using the stock configuration.

Definitely worth the effort to install them down there where I wanted them. Plenty of light to get me down the mountain after a day of shooting.

I'm not a serious off-roader so putting them on ditch light brackets would just make me even more of a pouser than I already am.

Do it Bandit. The new ones are even brighter.

Bonus, @Baja Designs is running a rebate starting Monday. Rebate plus forum discount should knock about $90 off the price for a pair.
