I cleaned my TB last night and, predictably, the idle is now high. What's the sequence to reset/reprogram the idle? I've read I can disconnect the battery, which I'd rather not do, or I've seen a bunch of different brake and ignition sequences to follow but, none I've read are specific to a 1st Gen, so here I am asking the proper people. What's the sequence? Thanks for any help that can be provided.

It will self heal, drive around a bit. A lot of people think the battery needs to be reset for anything, these computers are smart enough to adjust.

Yeah buddy. Like Darkness says it should self heal. I’d reset the battery for grins if it was mine. 10mm wrench takes about 30 seconds.

Did you tighten up that throttle cable while in there? Mine had some play from the cable stretch of 15 years. Tighten it about 1/4”. Big difference!

Unless I'm mistaken, there's no throttle cable. I've got an '05 and I'm pretty sure it's fly by wire. I'll admit, and my wife can testify, that I'm unable to find or notice something in the fridge or pantry but, I think I would have noticed a throttle cable last night when I had the TB off.

03 and newer are drive by wire, previous models had a cable.

Funny things will upset the idle temporarily. When I removed my K&N kit and went back to stock my idle was high while parked. When I drove around the block it got so low at stop signs that it stalled. Started up again and drove more, was normal a few blocks later.

I know this post is from 2018, but I’m new to this page and hoping someone can answer my question. I did a TB cleaning last night and not sure if my problem is a bad TB or it needs to re learn. My vehicle idles fine, between 500 and 1. When I put it in D or R it accelerates on its own, to about 3mph. Thoughts? Haven’t been successful with any re learn procedures yet.

When you say it accelerates on its own, is it lunging when you put it gear, or just idling off when you let off the brake?

To me it feels like it’s slightly lunging off, but no increase in RPMs. Maybe I’m just getting used to a V8... I can put it in reverse and truck will back into my driveway on its own with no gas from me. I have a somewhat steep driveway and it’s all rock, so not just an easy surface to move up on. Maybe it’s nothing, not sure. TIA for any help on this.
