Any one remove DC rear seats?

I'm amazed at how much space the rear seats take up in my DC whether in seated position or folded forward. There is just not much room for groceries and boxes either way.
Since there's just two of us and no one has ridden in the back seat since we got it, I'm thinking to remove them. Has anyone done this and if so, how do you do it? Done any mods such as a shelf or built in boxes or something? Wonder if boxes were high enough that someone could use them as a seat with a flat cushion in a pinch for short distances, seat belts would remain in place.
Apologies if this has been covered but I haven't been successful finding discussions on this topic by using the search function.
I'd appreciate pics if you have some clever arrangement!

I was thinking about removing the section behind driver's seat for my dog.

 

It’s only 8 bolts per seat and provides a ton of space. Drivers side rear seat has some weight to it.

 

I ran with no seat in my access cab for a few years, I loved it. I can imagine a double cab would have quite a bit more space. Try it out, if you don't like it just put it back.

One thing to know, there are 2 vent boxes on the back wall of the cab. They are for pressure relief, without a backseat they won't be muffled and it will almost sound like you have a window open. You can't really do much about it, I plugged mine with rags but it made my AC a bit less efficient on fresh air mode.

 

It’s jist Lisa and I and our two dogs, so we removed ours and put the fridge, water tanks and dual battery back there. Next step is to build storage that’s at the same height as the fridge so the dogs have one big cushioned platform back there, and we get a drawer that slides out the passenger side.

True that's a double cab, but not in the same way. 1st gen vs 2nd gen. But that is a nice build.

 

I don’t understand the rear back tilt down project- my seat backs fold forward flat, laying horizontal on the seat. Then that folded hunk tilts forward behind the front seats. Doesn’t leave a lot of room to play in, though.

I removed the largest rear seat for the fur child kennel and the underseat storage compartment. Left the other just in case. Also removed my trifold tonneau as I haul a lot of stuff. Removed the oem all weather mats and got weather guards. Also removed the oem rims and tires, sway bars, suspension, swapped spare tire, oem interior lights yeah half my garage is my truck lol

 

Ares, I have a boat so half of my garage is already boat stuff- wondering where exactly I'll put the humongous seats!

Aha... I just realized you have a first gen. The cab and seat configuration and functionality are totally different.

These three kegs are for water, but I do have a fourth on standby for when I plumb the tap through the fridge with a chill plate. Then we’ll have nitro beer on tap on the trail.

 

I have two dogs and they use the back seat. Although they only use the larger portion. The seat behind the passenger front is hardly ever used. I've thought about removing it for extra space. I probably wouldn't mount stuff there since I sometimes have passengers with my dogs. So I'd only remove it for bag/bedding space on camping trips.

 

Swalters have you removed/reinstalled the rear seats? If so, what is that like?

 

It’s easier if you have 2 sets of hands, the drivers side is heavy.

 

I removed the drivers side rear seat to make room for my tools and stuff. Gives you a lot more space.

Was thinking about.removing the seats in my AC. How difficult was it? How do you even get the backs off? I don't even know if they fold down lol

 

Hey Sam! Double check on your first gen. I'm not sure if they did the same thing on them, but on the 07+ the larger side attaches to the smaller side, so if you're gonna remove one section, you can only remove the larger section and leave the small passenger side in. Hopefully it's not that way in first gens.

 

Dang that looks like you could store some home made brew in one of the tanks and keep a big smile on your face while on the camping trips.... Just sayin...
