I love the flat look... just wondered how much of a pita it'll be...

Not a pain at all! Took about 5 min to remove the grill and about 30 min to prep. I was very meticulous with my tape job and cleaning. Spraying took close to 2 hours due to the time between coats. Let it set all afternoon and then removed the tape. For a rookie I ended up with an almost flawless job. And 2 cans of spray is less than $20 total.

So you had no issue removing the insert from the rest of the grille? I think I'm gonna spray it all, including the center logo...so no taping for me. What did you do for prep?
A can here cost $24.99!!! But that's Canadian... that's about $5 US, right?

I didn't remove the insert. If you're dipping it's not necessary.

A can of dip runs about $13 on Amazon. Price goes down the more you buy. Went in on 6 cans with a friend. 2 will get the grill done.

Instead of trying to maintain the plastidip I opted to give something a try and it worked like a charm.... I hit it with some armorall tire foam. Slicked it up and darkened it up and no bugs. Granted with the good will come some bad, I live in the desert and when we had a sand storm the sand just held to it. Hit it with the pressure washer and I was good to go. Now I armorall my plastidip about once every 2 - 3 months. I also pit a thick coat on the bottom portion of my truck and it deters the rocks like a champion. The armorall looks awesome and doesn't streak.

Got Youtube. There are a couple of videos that show how to pop it out the right way. Just be careful. Or, get a shop to make the switch. Then they will be on the hook. It only takes 10 mins to swap out.

Had body shop paint my Platinum grill insert (they masked it vs separating from the chrome surround) and it turned out very nice. While they had the grill out I had them install matching painted front bumper end caps.

Before and after pics here. Since these pics were taken, I have installed a set of Leo's Retro HID's with LED DRL.

I've got a Quicksand surround and am trying to pry it from a 2014-2016 TRD Pro grille to install the surround onto a 2019 TRD Pro grille insert.

You are correct, sir, in stating that these tabs seem near impossible.

I just did this today! Not impossible, but damn that wasn’t easy. My only advice is take your time. No real trick to it. I used various sized flat screw drivers. Took me about 45 min to separate.

I will say that just when I thought that heat from the hair dryer was the ticket, the final three or four tabs popped out with just steady pressure.

And the final two at the end near the screw hole locations both popped out together at the same time with no insert damage to speak of... it was like, boom, done.

I have done a couple insert swaps now with no broken tabs at all.
    It just takes some patience.
Some are more stubborn than others.

Did you heat the tabs at all?

    Or use any special tools?

Just a couple different flat blade screwdrivers.

I use a small one to give the black tab a downward push and then press the other out.

I’ve had a couple that just refused to release, so I just took a razor blade and trimmed them off so the surround tab could slide through.

    The surround fits securely
    Back into place every time.
I’ve even trimmed all the little black tabs off before and the new surround still stays secure.
