I wish the 1st gen version was a little longer. Seems to be a bigger gap than I would like between tires and slider.

I could have a shop weld a ring around the bolt to protect them.

Yup. This is what happens when the sliders are short. Doesn’t even make sense why they wouldn’t run it to the wheel.

A little longer on the front wouldn’t hurt neither.

The question made A LOT more sense than the half washers did.

It does help. Never thought to line-x them, I like that idea. I’m also going to order the diamond plate due to my dog jumping in and out of the back seat. He fell through the slider kickout on my t4r when he was a pup and never attempted again.

Yeah, there seemed to be no logical reason for those half washers.

Tundras are too big for the rubi. Tacos are even too big. You could but damage would be inevitable.

Hell no! Our trucks won’t make it through the Rubicon. At least not without some 42’s or something. Not even sure then. Where do you live?

You talking about the factory rails dropped because of the tonneau rail? Or the Hi Lift brackets?

It's 2" wide aluminum bar cut to 4" lengths. Secured at the top at the factory hole and Torx. Dropped rail secured with bolt and nylon nut. Hope that helps.

The trails we’ve been to near Redding are High Lakes and Peligreen Jeepway. DO NOT go to Peligreen Jeepway! I repeat, DO NOT go to Peligreen! Lol. High Lakes is pretty good. Not easy but not too difficult. Only real difficult part was way at the end of the trail, right before you get to the lake on the end, there were a couple of gnarly spots. You can drive to that spot and just turn around there. And one section off the trail we ran was super gnarly but you can skip that section. If you’re going to start wheeling, get this book.

Another trail not too far from you is one of our favorites. Poker Flat. But you’ll need a lift and sliders to run that trail. Come out with us some time.

Width, wheelbase and approach/departure angles aren’t in the tundras favor.

You can't go wrong with big name manufacture sliders. Bolt-on or Weld-on will give you great protection you need. I would look into a local fabricator. @renosauce , Stanley owns a first gen himself. Never got a chance to see it in person, but his sliders looks like it has great coverage from end to end. Milogen Fabrications, Milo, can pretty much make you what you want. I know his style usually consists of a square main, gusseted legs to frame, kick out, kick up, plated, dimple die, and what not. Getting custom will really get you that end to end coverage, tailored to what you want/need. I prefer bolt-on to have frame plates vs. the L bracket style, but both I've seen in person hold up really well. I've seen some mounting hardware get sheered off,die grinder and some new grade 8's will take care of that.. Same with HREW vs DOM. I spent some extra money to get my AP slider upgraded to DOM just bc I thought it was that much stronger. @831Tun has the same sliders just HREW, put his through some tough stuff, hung em up and they are holding up just fine. Another great benefit for getting custom work is getting the frame legs welded all the way across the frame(as much as possible). Only cons I can think of is you will more than likely be without the truck for a weekend or so, and it might cost a bit more than your "black friday" deal from a big name company.

Paint will hold up. How you prep and paint is very important. If you do get it custom, before having the legs welded to the frame, pick em up and paint em yourself. Or even with the bolt on. Hit the raw metal with acetone, etching primer, and some heavy coats of w/e you choose- bedliner, high temp, gloss, flat, purple, white, etc, and let it cure under a heat lamp or in the sun if weather permits. Powder coat can get pricey, call around and get the best quote. Or use some brush on por15. Love that stuff.

The half washers do go on the cross member if I remember correctly. Removing my factory TRD aluminum skid, the hardware had some square angled washers. I had just replaced those with the ones supplied from RCI. Give them a call or request for some instructions if you didn't have any.

BAK sells a rail relocation kit for about $50 (also available on Amazon). If you don't want to make your own, this comes with everything that you need to drop the rails. BAK says that this is for their covers but this is what I used with my Pace Edwards retractable cover.

Who would ever do such a thing to ya :anonymous:?!?! Well maybe just @froggy78 . He’s been denying my FaceTime, ignoring my texts, not laughing at my jokes. :(

I’m sure Stanley doesn’t mean too though. Not much coming from the shop as of late, so I’m sure he doing the IT gig full time now.
