Trek Fuel EX 8. Plenty of fun riding in austin. Found this rock quarry riding along railroad tracks.. avoided security and got some cool pictures.

How easy is it to fit a mtb under that rack, in the case you have an RTT on it?

Been a while since I got this, but my YT Tues CF Pro freaking rips. Just wants to go fast. One out of the box, one in it's natural habitat.

I have a 2x6 across the front of the bead with the fork mounts. Have to pull a tire and they fit. Hitch rack is much more convenient.

Just picked up this bad boy last week. Training starts now for the century ride...
Possibly stupid question, can I use a tailgate pad with a road bike? As of right now I just put it under the cover (drive side up).

Yes, but I find my road bike moves around quite a bit more than my MTB. Prob a weight distribution thing. It's lateral though; no risk of falling out or anything.

I'm in SoCal too. Which century you doing?

Okay cool, I might give it a shot then. I want to avoid buying an actual rack if possible.
The century is the “Bike the Coast” from Oceanside down to Del Mar and back. Should be a pretty fun ride.

I'd go for a fork mount on the bed rail. It'll save you a lot of hassle.

I have the Toyota cover with the rail relocation. Will that interfere with installing the mount? Sorry total noob with hauling around road bikes.

    EDIT:

You should be fine, as long as the rail is still there and usable.

If so, this would do you well: https://rockymounts.com/collections/adaptor-and-truck-mounts/products/loball-track

much more proper setup, and it'll be secure when going over bumps and shit. No risk of breaking crap then.

Front rail is still there but unfortunately the cover doesn’t fold all the way up. It leaves the front 1/3 or so of the bed covered. That’s why I was thinking of going off the tailgate..

Ah, I would measure the distance from the fork to rear wheel. You could use what I posted above but sideways towards the back of the bed.

I personally think tailgate pads/hauling sucks, but I'm neurotic above my bikes. If you can swing the cost, try one of these:

    https://www.1up-usa.com/product/quik-rack-single/

They work great, then you have your bed for gear, and they store easily. Wheel-on transport is really nice IMO, but I have all thru-axle bikes, so take that with a grain of salt.

Anyone have recommendations for a CHEAP 27 or 29 hardtail MTB? Sub $400, preferably sub $200. I just need something to ride with my kid as my road bike isn't great at low speeds or comfort.

That's the lead case so far unless there are some new options that are pretty good
