There's another thread somewhere recently where a shop installed a set of 5100s with the spring seat upside down. The more i learn about cars, the less I trust shops, especially franchise type places - you could not pay me to take t truck or vehicle to jiffy-lube - in summary - even if numerous shops were telling you that you had struts, it just means they're all wrong too

Actually some Rams come with a solid axle front and rear and that would have an independent spring and shock set up with trailing control arms (4 link), not A arms.

But the IFS trucks with a "strut" its still a coilover.

I think they're technically listed as struts in the part listings but I agree that in a coilover suspension the coil just supports the weight of the vehicle and doesnt really contribute to the suspension movement laterally.

Good explanation on strut vs coilover. Even so, I’ve noticed most auto parts places still list Toyota/Lexus Taco/Tundra/4R/GX470, etc. IFS replacement coilovers as “struts.” I’ve noticed many aftermarket coilovers that offer lift are called “coilovers,” though.

That's your cherry picked definition of a strut. You may want to check with Toyota which manufactures the Tundra. They call it a strut in all the repair manuals and in the parts catalog. Most of the aftermarket parts also call it a strut. You are showing one type of strut. That is not the only kind and not having an upper control arm is not definitive as you incorrectly state. If the coil spring and shock are attached together it is a strut and some folks also call it a coil over (same thing).

It is ironic that you think others are wrong, including Toyota, when they are not. Educate yourself and stop preaching B.S.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm glad some people know the difference between coil overs and struts. I got a call from a place I got an estimate for a level lift and he could swear that my truck had struts. After about 2 minutes of trying to explain to this moron I finally couldn't take it no more and hung up.

YES THEY DO. You do not have coil overs. You have struts in the front, and shocks in there rear. Plain and simple. That's what you tell the guy at the counter, or if ordering online. You have double wishbone suspension. (picture is from automotive instruction book)

    Yeah, that’s a coil over.
Double wish-bone means it has an upper control arm. Cool story bro. The guy at the counter also asks you if you have 2wd or 4wd when ordering wiper blades.
