I've seen a few threads regarding replacing the JBL head unit and have a pretty good idea of what to expect, but I haven't seen much mention of the behavior of the navigation functionality afterwards.

I have a 2019 with the JBL system, which as we all know isn't the best thing in the world, and I'm investigating various options. The idea of Android auto sounds great to me, so replacing the head unit to get that doesn't seem like a bad way to go. With the current head unit, the dash shows a compass and navigation info, if it's in use. With the maestro connected to the odb2, do these still work with aftermarket navigation? What about with the Android Auto maps/nav feature?

I'd love to hear your experiences with this. Thanks!

    Welcome!

I don't think the the display in the gauge cluster will show upcoming turns when you upgrade the head unit.

Do you know what gear you are going to use?

Not yet, I'm pretty early in the researching phase. The answer to this would probably influence that decision though. I'd end up replacing the head unit and amp (and everything else behind them), but I think the choice of head unit is probably the biggest difference makes as far as compatibility is concerned.
