I haven’t seen much information on the undercover Ridgelander cover, but based off what I could find I ended up going with the Ridgelander. I went back and forth between this cover, the diamondback covers and the American roll cover.

The American Roll covers look nice and has great reviews, but after adding up the cost of the cover and rack system I probably would have spent around $2.5k, which was way more than I wanted to spend. I would also have lost some storage area due to the canister, which I wanted to avoid.

I really like the Diamondback covers, but I know if I had decided on those I would have rationalized myself into spending the extra $$ on the HD version, which would have been overkill for my use. Even with the SE, I still would have had to buy a rack system to attach to the cover and probably would have spent about 2K.

The Ridgelander has some similar specs to the Diamondback SE...it is rated to carry about 500lbs on the cover and is priced about the same. The big selling point on the Ridgelander for me was that it comes with a RhinoRack system and the cover has a built t-slot channel system to support the rack cross-bars. The cover also uses something they call the “tango system” so you can install the racks when the cover is off and also acts as bed rails. Again, this is included in the price of the cover.

I shopped around and ended up buying the cover on Autoanything. I was able to find it cheaper on another site I wasn’t familiar with, but AA price matched and I’ve always had good luck with AUtoAnything. So when it was all said and done I got the cover for about $1,300. Still not cheap, but the best option I could find for what I was looking for.

I just got the cover today and installed tonight. First impressions is it seems solid and the weather seal looks tight all the way around.

If anybody is interested I’ll post some better pictures when I have some daylight to work with and will follow up with my impressions after I have it for awhile.

Anyways, just wanted to put some info out there on this cover, since I couldn’t find much when I was searching.

    What I wanted:
-Able to carry some weight/cargo (nothing crazy, but needed to be a solid cover)
    - Fairly weather right
    - Ability to use a rack that could carry bikes and/or an RTT
    - easy removal for when I need to carry larger items

That cover looks BA, very interesting. I’ve never heard of them but I would like to see more pics and I’d also like to hear your review/info you come up with on this thing. Looks solid but I’m sure you’ll tell us.

That’s a cool tonneau! I really want a bed rack system/tonneau cover. How quick/easy does the cover come off if you want full bed access?

I’ll take some more pictures this afternoon and post them.

I just installed the cover yesterday, so haven’t had a need to take it off yet, but I can’t imagine it will take more than 5 minutes to remove and re-install now.

The cover isn’t very heavy, but because of the size it will definitely be easier to take off/put back on with another person helping.

Here are a few more pictures. If there are any specific parts you want to see let me know and I’ll take those for you.

One thing I didn’t realize with the cover is that it comes with an LED light strip as well. Nothing fancy, but convenient when looking in the bed at night.

    Nice cover @Aobraz
How’s it so far? Water leaks? Easy to remove?

So far so good. We really haven’t had any measurable rain here in my part of Texas, but I have run it through the car wash a few times. A little water seeps in around the tailgate, but it is nothing significant.

The process to take it off is easy enough, but an extra set of hands definitely helps. It’s not the weight, but the size of the cover that makes it a little cumbersome to remove. This is one thing I like about the idea of the diamondback covers. The three smaller pieces seem like they would be much easier to handle when removing by myself.

I used this forum and other resources to decide on the Undercover Ridgelander, and moved forward with purchasing it. It is a lot of money but well worth it. I have had three trucks in last 10 years, each with different covers and this one is hands down the best. The install was not too bad, but definitely have another set of hands available. It took about 1.5 hrs and overall trouble free other than a little fine tuning to the front bracket placement. It has been 99% waterproof. A few trickles at tailgate in extremely heavy rain. I use a bed mat over a spray liner and the few drops just trickled under the mat. Normal rain, not a single drop. I raise and lower the cover a lot, so I decided to take tge basket off as it is fairly heavy and makes the cover slightly more difficult to lift up. I will only need the basket a few times a year, and it only takes about 10 minutes to put on or off. This cover looks great and works great.

Dxiong0629, the basket weighs about 40lbs. Just an estimate. When you open the cover it has hydraulic arms that raise it up with little to no assist needed. When the basket is on it the hydraulics are not strong enough to do this without you manually pushing it up. They do help a little but the cover weight and the basket weight is pushed up mostly by you. It is not bad just requires a decent push. I am 5’10” and when pushing it up near the top my arms are extended fully. Just a little akward more than anything, but in no way difficult.

Now that i have had the cover for about 2 months, i can attest it is holding up well 95% watertight. Only place i am getting any drips is corners of cab side. This is not the cover’s fault. It is the two small openings on the truck bed at the top where the bedrails meet the bulkhead. It is minimal and with the bed mat i have, the small amount would roll under that. I have enough confidence in this cover that i leave my gym bag, briefcase, blankets, etc back there with no concern.

On my last truck i had a simple extang trifold that was great. I was worried that having a cover like this may get in the way if needing to move tall items. It hasn’t bothered me. I have removed it once to haul a large item and as long as you have someone to help you carry it off the bed, it takes no more than 5 minutes to take off, and put back on.

awesome - as for the hydraulic arms how will those hold up with rust and will it last down the road?

They do look like they will. I put a very this coat of silicone lubricant on the metal (i am ocd). Undercovers customer service is great. I have no doubt if they rust or fail they will replace them

I have a Ridgelander but have had problems with water running in. Not only around the tailgate, but also on the sides and also close to the cab.
I paid a local place to order and install... which was only $100 more than the best online price I could find. I’m going to start by taking it back to them and see if they can improve things. Anyone else have problems with water coming in on this cover?

The local dealer worked on the cover and put some silicone in some areas. I think it is more water resistant, but now it is a pain to close. Guys who have had these, are they a pain to close and as you get some use and things break in, do they ease up?

Undercover customer service was responsive to my problems with the cover. They sent me a new hinge and after swapping them out, the cover opens and closes properly. The water problem has improved. I suspect other covers do a better job at keeping water out. Or maybe mine wasn’t put on as perfectly as it could have been? Who knows. It’s pretty good. Would I buy it again? Maybe.... If I had it to do over again, I probably would put a soft fold up or less expensive hard trifold tonneau cover on... live with that for a while and save the extra $$... then see if I actually need a more “high end” cover at a later time. These decisions are very challenging when you first get the truck b/c you want to “outfit” it and get going... but it’s hard to know what you are actually getting till it’s on the truck and you’ve dropped the $$.

I’ve been contemplating this cover or a ProZ hard tri fold. The ProZ is around $630. May go that route and save some coin.

To those that have the ridgelander, did you get those rubber strips in the rhino rack vortex bars? I did not and from what I’ve read, they recommend using those if you are going to do accessories that clamp to the bar. Also, I’m a little concerned about water getting in the slots during winter, then freezing and expanding.

@Aobraz it’s been about a year since you picked up the Ridgelander. How has it been holding up? Still have it? Interested in picking up one up myself. I have the Undercover Classic now. Like having a tonneau over a canopy, would still like to be able to carry my RTT...

If I remember correctly, The rubber strips were packaged inside the bars themselves. Just had to pull off the end caps to get to them.

I definitely still have it and love it so far. I did make one or two adjustments to help the weatherseal, but have not had any issues with it at all. I don’t often have a need to take it off, but always seem to find myself carrying stuff that needs the full length of the bed, so I’m glad I didn’t go with the roll top and lose that space.

As far as wear and tear, the cover looks like the day I got it. I don’t really have any complaints about it so far. The only other cover I was really looking at was the diamondback and after seeing some around town I do like the way those look, but having the built in rack integration was the main selling point for me and it hasn’t let me down yet.

Thanks. Just what I wanted to hear, unfortunately for me though I emailed them and they do not make the Ridgelander for the 2nd gen Tundra. They said the box dimensions are different and it wouldn’t work with the older style box.

You or anyone have an idea what the differences are between 2nd and 3rd gens? I’m new to the Tundra game, only had mine about 3 weeks...

I wonder if you would be so kind as to measure the actual outside dimensions of the cover itself. A rep for Undercover has told me that the cover won’t work with ‘07 - ‘13 Tundras because of the thickness of the tailgate.

Other than the tailgate the box dimensions are exactly the same between the two trucks. If the cover is short enough that it won’t hang over the back of my tailgate I might pull the trigger.

Interestingly, mine never came with the strips. Undercover correctly said call rhino rack. Rhino rack apologized and mailed me a set for free.
Not sure how to improve the incoming water. It’s not too bad, but I think it could be better. Anyone have any luck with some easy adjustments?
