I did similar mounting it here and running wires through the headliner to the pillar. Didn’t have to remove the pillar, I just worked it in at the top and ran it down the weather stripping to under the console. Anyone have a usb they’ve added that works with audio? Reading negative reviews about the ones on Amazon

looking at the 9704s, what does Sirius XM READY mean? Is it ready for a subscription or more parts needed?

sirius XM "ready" means you need to buy the corresponding satellite radio tuner, which is not built into any headunit I know of, at least not a pioneer or kenwood

Yeah there’s an adapter you have to purchase for xm. Can’t speak to how well it works because I pretty much just use Spotify and podcast. It also does pandora

Also keep in mind the extras that are needed to hook up the stereo. I paid $338 for the stereo but it cost me about another $200 for wiring kits and dash kit.

no, not all radios have the plug to connect a sirius XM tuner, so "ready" just means it has the plug

Anyone seen/tried one of these? I know, I know, I’m askin for trouble with another one of these android head units that’s not a brand name. Im just not ready to give up on the OEM look. I hate the way the aftermarket ones look in the dash. And I don’t wanna pay $1k for an aftermarket unit just to have the screen angled like the dash. But I def have given up on the OEM head sound and
function. And the constant crashing is too much. https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/162853439395

Was that a pain? And i take that story to mean that the Idatalink Maestro allows you too keep just about everything BUT the factory mic that's already in the overhead console.

Welp, it looks like i'm leaning more and more toward a Kenwood head unit. Looks like theres a few of them where the screen still can be physically angled and i'm not too concerned with the inclusion of Waze on the head unit since Carplay will have it this fall when iOS 12 comes out. All the research i've been doing seems like I'll need the Idatalink Maestro RR, with the ST02 to keep my factory gps antenna, the T02 for vehicle setup functions and the non-JBL amp, AND UT02 for my factory USB input.

So question about that last one for the Kenwood peeps, I know for Carplay and android auto theres a specific usb cable you have to use.... This idatalink usb cable doesn't allow you to make the factory usb drop one of those, does it? Because it seems like it would. For ex. the gray usb cable on the Kenwoods is for car-play... If I hooked that one to the factory location with the UT02 then the factory usb input in the center stack should be my "carplay input" right?

Your mic placement is perfect for voice quality. However, I recommend you pull your pillar and ziptie your mic cord along the factory harness. The reason I say that is to keep it from interfering with the side curtain airbag if (hopefully never) it needed to deploy.

Losing the nav in the center display on the dash is a deal breaker for me. As far as I know, there are no aftermarket head units that retain that feature.

Seems like only anther Toyota head unit would allow that to still work. Anybody try a 3rd gen Tacoma head unit in a Tundra?

I don’t think you’d be able to get the taco HU to jive in the Tundra dash

I really liked the unit in my 2016 Tacoma. It's a lot better than the Tundra unit, but I wouldn't go through a lot of trouble to make it happen. The Tundra unit is "good enough".

Is there anyway to mirror iPhone via Bluetooth for getting audio and video on 2018 Tundra stock entune audio plus? If not, what other options would I have for mirroring iPhone other than installing an aftermarket radio? Really not trying to remove factory unit because I don’t want to risk messing anything up with all the wiring and how supposedly everything back there is connected to safety features and etc. I just can’t get over how bad the factory stereo is and the Scout gps is practically completely useless. One of the worst that I have ever seen. Thanks for any feedback.

there is nothing special about the tundra head unit in regards to wiring, safety or connections. its just another 12 volt car and HU. all the features can be accessed after its removal through the use the idatalink kit. throw that junk out, and install what is gonna make you happy.

The heads-up turn by turn navigation between the speedo and tach are lost with every single aftermarket HU available. That's a deal breaker for me and a lot of other people.

You've probably already seen these and aren't interested but the digital speedo in whatever app is tracking from the wired stock GPS antenna. My dash speedo behind the wheel is off since I have bigger tires and I never bothered getting a Hypertech calibrator. The HU is running Waze here.

    IMG_0245-2.jpg

It does depend on GPS signal (no tunnels), and it's not as accurate with rapid acceleration/deceleration but at a steady speed it's more reliable than the vehicle's speedo even on stock wheels.

This was going to be my trucks first upgrade, http://www.beatsonicusa.com/if02ep.html
Until I stumbled upon the Phoenix.
I was not impressed with the library sound and lack of freedom on the stock unit.

Well, maninly for me......Entune SUCKS. Oh and the bluetooth shenanigans with the factory unit.....oh and the GPS requires updating the map at $90....the sound quality, better resolution screen....capacitive vs. resistive touch screen....

Ok here’s a dumb question, and maybe I should start a new thread. I have a 2015 Platinum, and like others I love the turn by turn between the gauges. Can I install a 2020 head unit with car ply built in?

If you have car play why do you need the crappy factory NAV. Google is WAY better.

My Excellon no doubt has a bit of software, but android HU are on a whole different level. You are at the mercy of the programmers. So much software waiting to crash or bug out on you if you don t get the right updates, or if the programmer was doing crack:eek2::militarypress::goingcrazy:while coding.
